Hi Everyone, well not proud of what I did, but I ordered an AMD Ryzen 7 5700X CPU from Techbooze on 16th January 2023. I clearly should have done my due diligence, as post-facto, I am seeing a lot of unfavorable comments on reddit. So far, the seller is reachable, and has promised shipping in 3 days, so it is early to assume fraud I guess.

However, could I request for suggestion in case there's some recourse / way to get the transaction reversed from the bank (HDFC Bank in my case).

Anyway, I will keep posting to log my experience with Techbooze here, and will definitely escalate to the extent necessary, if needed. If it goes well, I will credit the website here, although I am keeping my hopes limited.

In the meantime, feel free to message me in case you are also going through trouble with Techbooze, often two is better than one. And more are better than two.

PS: I thought I was good with all things money and tech. Now I see myself as an old gullible uncle. Phew.

Regards

In case you do not receive product/service and have paid with Credit Card, you can request chargeback with your bank for that particular transaction. It could take few weeks to process (not completely sure current state).

Never heard of techbooze, next time use pcpricetracker. It looks like there were more reputable places selling it for around the same. Also, definitely try the chargeback route if you ordered with CC.

Unfortunately I relied on pcpricetracker on that day, and it was listed.

Thanks for that bit. I knew of this and reached out to my bank. After some insisting they agreed to it. I am thinking when to initiate charge-back because the bank (reasonably) argued that I should wait for some time for delivery. Or do you think I should jump the gun and request charge-back already?

As far as i know techbooze isn't fraud. The business seems to be on/off at times which generated a ton of negative feedback when they were not able to deliver.

Techbooze has been in talks for sometimes now and i remember seeing some good feedbacks about it around 1-2 years ago on reddit gaming community. Also, the business is new and started a little before covid. So, a new business suddenly facing lockdown may have caused some operational issues. Older brands like PrimeABGB, MD computer & vedant have enought capital to handle bad times like covid and recover from it. But, i don't know how techbooze is performing right now.

Also, the person running PcPriceTracker is quite particular about which seller to show and regularly adds/removes them based on feedback. And also has communication with the sellers listed (i guess). If you have any doubts, contact him/her on reddit. However, i suggest you to either wait or directly get in touch with techbooze first.

Thanks Kunnal, that is reasonable indeed. In fact I just did that about a couple of hours ago. Wrote an email to Techbooze stating that I trust them in good faith , but that I am concerned about online reviews being very disappointing. I also told him that I would explore all options including approaching cyber-cell / consumer forum in case my order is not fulfilled and the claims of fraud turn out to be true.

Lets see if it works. I genuinely hope that it does, and that I don't have to resort to any of those means but I will if I must.

Yea, hope for the best. Additionally if things turn out to be bad, make sure to inform about it to PCPT so that they can remove this seller and avoid situations like this. Good luck.

Why would HDFC or any other bank repay back in this case ?
Banks do not immediately transfer funds for a transaction to a merchant if paid via CC. They hold the amount for a particular period of time, before paying it out.

In case of a successful chargeback/dispute, the bank simply does not pay out the amount to the merchant, and instead credits it back to the cc of the affected party.

Are you sure? If that is so, should I claim charge back right now, even before I have reasonable time to claim that I did not receive the product?

Don't rush it, give the merchant the benefit of doubt.

Worst case - he doesn't deliver the goods, you raise a chargeback with your bank. The merchant will then have 7 days to respond, challenging the chargeback with evidence (which he won't have). The merchant is then liable to refund the entire amount to the bank, which in turn, refunds it back to you.

No, because the card issuer (Visa, MC or AmEx) doesn't just take your word for it. They temporarily credit your statement with the amount under dispute. Then they do their internal investigation (which can take upto 90 days) and involves contacting the merchant for his side of the story. If the merchant proves that he provided the goods/service to you, the chargeback will be reversed.

That is reasonable, and fantastic. Thanks @PunkX 75 and @awestorr as well.

Just one last question. What is a reasonable timeframe before initiating the chargeback request? I am wondering if I create an evidence trail of repeat phone and email reminders to Techbooze as evidence every 3 days in a 15 day period and then initiate it, would that be reasonable? Or should I give them more time?

Wow thanks for information,
This is something new for me.
Does this happens with all online merchants and all CC?

This is the case with most banks.

However, it also depends on how long the bank takes to investigate the matter, which may stretch to 90 days. If the merchant does not revert with evidence supporting their cause within 7 days of receiving a chargeback notification, they are liable to pay the bank back, which in turn is refunded to you.

Just cancel if it's not shipped yet.

Cancellation Before Shipment

Order once placed can only be canceled within 8 hours from placing the order, you can write to our customer support team on support@techbooze.in or call us on +91 9679150072. In such cases, the order will be canceled and the money will be refunded to you after deducting the transaction fee which may take upto 30 business days after the cancellation request.

why keep a headache for long. just say you changed your mind and ask them to cancel. call them on that number.
