Graphic Cards Suggest a Graphic Card ~5k

Hi Guys,

want to buy a graphic card that will serve me for at least 2 years.
Budget: ~5k (or any TE market deals within 2.5k)
Game Res and settings preferred : 1920x1080 @ (high/ultra) or somewhat less.

My Rig:
Intel E6300
1 GB ddr2 Ram
Intel 946gz mobo
Dell ST2220L
Local PSU 400w

I primarily need graphics card as my onboard graphics card driver is failing in regular use...

Would mostly watch HD videos and for occasional gaming.

Okay your requirements and expectations need a serious rethinking in the light of your budget and the fact that you are powering your RIG with a local SMPS.

These are what I would suggest, you can game at ~1080p with low / medium detailing depending on the game --
  • AMD HD5670 1GB GDDR5 ~5500/-
  • AMD HD6670 1GB GDDR5 ~6000/-
  • AMD HD6770 1GB GDDR5 ~6500/- [this will require an SMPS of Corsair CX v2430W class at-least]
  • nVidia GTX550Ti ~7000/- [this will require an SMPS of Corsair CX v2430W class at-least]
  • AMD HD7750 1GB GDDR5 ~7200/- [this will require an SMPS of Corsair CX v2430W class at-least]
Hope this helps, Cheerio!

Your issues are more in line with a dying motherboard rather than just the iGP going kaput.

Thanks mate...actually i was thinking of replacing mobo to Gigabyte or likes, however this will bring in additional cost of RAM as my RAM is 667Mhz and it is difficult to find the suitable mobo for it..
Hence wanted a GPU to support the daily needs and hence required expert advice..

How'bout HD4850 in place of HD5670?

It will be pointless to spend on a graphics card to compensate for a faulty motherboard. That is my opinion on your conundrum.

I think if you go for a new GIGABYTE motherboard based on the G31 / G41 chipset with a second-hand pair of 800MHz RAM module(s) then you will be able to use the current setup for longer; sure no gaming on 1080p with eye-candy [even with a 5000/- quid graphics card it will be a pipe-dream] but atleast the system is running.

@SaTo if you want to play games on the 1920x1080 (high/ultra), I don't think 6770 will do well.
But if you bring down the resolution to 720p then it will work great.
