hi guyz
i have intel core2duo 2.66ghz with intel dg33fb mobo with 4gb ddr2 ram.
i am think to upgrade my configuration.
I am confused at one choice, i should purchase a new high speed quad core cpu or i7 ?
if i'll purchase quad core cpu then i do not need to purchase MOBO coz it is compatible with quad cores also
if i'll purchase i7 then i have to upgrade mobo and ram also. so is it worth???

go for quad core as u wont have to upgrade your mobo .... may be in next upgrade [say 2 yrs.] you can get a 8 core cpu at that point in time

if u are looking for VFM product then buy mid range products as high range products prizes falls like indian share market :D

Depends a lot on your use and rest of the config. As eg in games, you are not gonna see much difference going from a core 2 quad to a i7 considering your graphics card. So which means you will have to upgrade your GPU to 'utilize' your i7.

Anyhow, i would recommend getting a quad over an i7 as you can still do the whole upgrade a lot later. Also, checkout any members selling a quad for cheap secondhand to upgade. :)

actually my present pc is doing good ,i am thinking to upgrade my cpu only coz upcoming games requirements are not matching with my 2.66 core2duo .
gaming comes first for me ,pc games ,ps2 games ,dreamcast, saturn with EMU .HD movies and animation programs

Which C2D do you have..?

Currently LGA775 Quads are expensive, unless you get a decent 2nd hand one. Also your board is non-OC, so you will not be able to reap the benefits of those strong chips.

Wait and watch coz the Intel line up goes for a refresh next year with the release of the LGA 2011 and LGA 1155 sockets, go for a decent quad not the q9550 as neojjk says coz overall your motherboard will become a bottle neck as it is a basic G33 chipset that also OEM from Intel.

Hope was of help :)
