debug consoles are used by sony repair centers and reviewers and also at many expos
 
Debug consoles or Dev Kits cannot be procured by anyone and Sony repair center do not have that but yes in Expos most of the publishers/developers use Devkits to display the games. Devkits can be purchased only by QA House and Development companies registered with Sony to develop and Test game.
 
PS3 3.50 Update imperfect :(

After less then 24 hours since v3.50 firmware hit the information-super-highway, the blogs are already filling up regarding the new PS3 firmware.

The biggest problem for most, is the sudden empty field where you normally find your Saved Password stored for PSN on-line mode, giving me alot of sudden upset when they have to go thru the password recovery steps!

But the biggest hype of this new firmware by Sony was for the amazing 3D playback of your block-buster 3D movies, and that seems to be were most of the complaints are coming in from around the various forums and blogs.

However, after trying to play a 3D blu-ray on my PS3, there seems to be some problems with the update. The only way to describe the effects I experienced is that the console wasn’t able to keep up with the 3D image on the screen. This led to a blurry picture where there was movement on the screen, and it gave me a bit of a headache looking at it. There have also been other reports that some people cannot get their 3D blu-rays working at all on the system saying that they aren’t recognized.

Sony's latest firmware update, 3.50, seems to have disabled a number of third party devices. In response to the recent attempt to hack the PS3 via USB, this latest move will counter those actions by disabling third party USB devices and making the PS3 secure from such hacking methods. Aside from USB devices, the new enforcement may also cause problems for some third party controllers. As detailed on Sony's site.
The controller will only cease to work if it works via USB and if the product isn't licensed by Sony -- so some third party controllers should still function fine. This is the second time Sony has increased security on the PS3 with the recent rise in hack attempts. This seems to be the biggest step forward against the attacks and should provide a strong sense of security against potential, future attempts. Microsoft did a similar move on the Xbox 360.
