Hi,

I have a strange packet loss issue on MTNL, one that i have never encountered before. I am getting packet losses while pinging my router. I am also getting packet losses on pinging my dns or any other site/ip like yahoo.com.

I have checked my router, the line seems ok, don't know whats causing the packet losses on 192.168.1.1 the default gateway of the router.

Any inputs is appreciable.

I am putting here the pings am getting on 192.168.1.1

Pinging 192.168.1.1 with 32 bytes of data:

I reduced the MTU size from 1500 bytes to 1400 bytes in my router's page and that solved my problem. Don't know whether it will be helpful in your case or not. Also, can you post your results here from pingtest.net ?

thanks for replying i am attaching a shot of my router, dunno if that will help any1 help me 1.jpg

There would be a diagnostics menu in the router page, where you can do ping tests. Can you try pinging a site , say google.com from the router and report the results back here..

hi sorry for the late reply, i had no net until today afternoon. they sent 2 engineers to my place today and they tried wasting my time by trying to reconfigure both my routers thinking i had done something wrong and that it was causing it. However, it was not the case, mine was correctly configured and still giving packet losses. Then one of the guy got his modem off his bag and installed that to see and wallah, i had no packet losses. So i gave him my 2nd router, lemme just emphasize here, both my router were bought last year. He connected the 2nd router and that too did the same, kept giving packet losses. The telephone guy took a letter from me as application for a router from mtnl, but has left his here until i get mine.

I am totally unable to understand why they both new routers wont work on my line ? I have this evening taken them to my friends place and have had the routers tested out at his connection and they both check out fine. The MTNL people who visited me however, don't want to look at it as a line problem as the router mtnl provides worked.

I would appreciate any inputs.

thanks

This is very strange. Any update?

What about the power adapter? Sometime the modem can function erratically if the power adapter goes nuts.
