Hi,

Want to buy a laptop with the new Ivy Bridge processors (i5 3rd gen).
The basic Qs...

  • What's your Budget? (e.g. >30K, not more than 50K etc.)
    30 to 35k
  • What will be your primary usage for the notebook be? (e.g. web surfing/office apps/Casual Gaming)
Occasional gaming at medium details(NFS, FIFA, Max Payne), surfing, college assignments and projects.
  • What size and weight considerations do you have? (e.g. Do you want a 17" desktop replacement or you want an ultraportable 12" or something in between)
15 incher, reasonably portable(may have to carry it to college).
  • Any brand that you prefer, or any brand that you detest? (e.g some would prefer to stay away from Acer or Dell)
    Mainstream brands.
  • Any other considerations? (e.g Battery life; Widescreen/non-widescreen; Glossy/Matte screen etc.)
As uaual, decent battery, decent service.

Models under consideration
1. Lenovo G580 (Lenovo Essential G Series G580 (59-324061) Laptop 3rd Gen Ci5/4GB/500GB/DOS: Flipkart.com: Compare, Review Lenovo Notebook)

2. HP 2000 2116tu (HP 2000 2116TU Laptop 3rd Gen Ci5/2GB/500GB/DOS: Flipkart.com: Compare, Review HP Notebook)

There myth regarding HP's heat issues is making me lean in favour of the lenovo G580. But I'm not finding credible reviews for this model.
Local lenovo dealers don't have it stock yet.
Dell is not being considered for the price (at least 7-8k higher).

Please suggest one from the list above or any other good alternative.

Many thanks.

if you are into gaming, consider this: HP Pavilion G6-2005AX. Battery backup is around 4.5hr during video testing so if you use it for light task, can go upto 5.5hrs and is light at 2.47Kg

Else if you are inclined towards Intel based laptop, i'll choose the lenovo over HP. HP's main problem is low rated battery that doesn't the best battery backup (same for the model i recommended when video playback should be 5.5hrs).

oh atlast someone got it.im so waiting for the reveiw, please share an open opinion.
im waiting to get a lap soon and this is a final contender.

heard that the bluetooth is an optional add-on.
also waiting to see how the cam works in low lighting as its just 0.3MP.

on other aspects it seems the best entry value 3rd gen 'i' processor around.

I can confirm that Bluetooth is present in the model bought from flipkart. Not sure of the version though.
I do not have access to the laptop. Its delivered and my bro is using it.

got the laptop in 3 days flat..
and seems flipkart is already on the uphill in the prices for the said model.

its the perfect mid-range.
and much lighter than the dell studio i owned before.
