I think you should stop using prithvi modem asap, that modem is only for locations where tower is just in the neighborhood. Speed depends on no. of active users and distance of tower from evdo being used. Its a miracle that you are getting that much speed with this modem, that could only mean that you are close to the tower. You should buy at least MTS zte ac2766 or micromax 300c and see the magic urself. It might be possible that your speed goes beyond 250 and less variations. If you want to use evdo up to its full potential then buy the new modem. I would recommend getting mts ac2766 over 300c. Rest more experienced users can explain better...

How can a router help in increasing your connection speed?
As Clarkdale mentioned, your speed depends on your distance from the tower and the number of users using that tower at that moment.

A router routes the internet to several computers. That is its only function. It cannot act like an antenna/modem to increase your connection strength and consequently your net speed.

I am quite close to the tower (about 1km away). But even then I get only around 60-70 kB/s on weekdays. Only on Sunday I get somewhat of a good speed in the morning.

He had seen 2-3 months back that when he connected his modem to the router his average download speed reduced by 100kB/s compared to when he connected his modem directly with his laptop/PC.
He was just letting us know that he is not facing such a problem anymore.

Generally roaming in BSNL RUIM's are activated by default.

@think123 Do you use guest login or your actual username/password?
When you are on roaming, you will have to use your actual username/password.

In my case roaming was activated by default. I thing all types of SIM's sold in India have roaming activated. No need to do anything extra.
