Hi All,

I'm looking to redo my current PC setup. I've always oogled about fancy looking PC for a loooong time now, and I finally have some cash to build one :) Although to be honest, there is really no 'need' for me to invest in one (struggle between ur typical mature mind and ur kiddish wants :D ). Below is the template that i've filled in. I'm not certain of my budget yet, I'd like to know how much such a setup would cost.

I'd rather buy whats available in Flipkart / online than invest time over heading out to local stores - But this mindset can be changed, if it's worth it.

  1. What is your budget?
    • Currently unknown, would like to draw out the budget depending on feedback
  2. What is your existing hardware configuration (component name - component brand and model)
    • CPU - Intel Core2Duo - God knows what GHz (Haven't turned on my pc in over 2 yrs), bought in 2008
    • Motherboard - Intel
    • GPU - None
    • RAM - Transcend 2GB x 3
    • Monitor - Viewsonic 19inch
    • PSU - Corsair VX450
    • (please mention the rest in above format)
  3. Which hardware will you be keeping (component name - component brand and model)
    • Monitor - Probably not, I'm looking for a dual monitor cost effective display
    • PSU - Corsair VX450
    • HDD
    • LG DVD drive
    • NZXT Tempest case
  4. Which hardware component are you looking to buy (component name). If you have already decided on a configuration then please mention the (component brand and model) as well, this will help us in fine tuning your requirement.
    • CPU - I don't know. Something decent along the i5/i7 quad core range
    • Motherboard - any compatible motherboard that gives me certain degree of control over OC/OV
    • GPU - A mid range decent GPU that lets me game occasionally in maxed out settings, allows for dual monitor setup.
    • PSU - Don't need it.
    • An SSD Drive maybe, just to crib about my windows booting faster than my monitor turning on :)
    • RAM - 6~8GB - Undecided.
  5. Is this going to be your final configuration or you would be adding/upgrading a component in near future. If yes then please mention when and which component

    • Probably not for the next 2 years at least.
  6. Where will you buy this hardware? (Online/City/TE Dealer)
    • First preference is flipkart or other online stores that I'm not aware of (Please enlighten me)
    • SP Road, Bangalore - although I don't want to haggle it out there.
  7. Would you consider buying a second hand hardware from the TE market
    • Nay
  8. What is your intended use for this PC/hardware
    • Gaming - light to moderate. No time for this, to be honest :|
    • Browsing
    • I use lightroom / photoshop my photo collection.
    • Music / Movies
  9. Do you have any brand preference or dislike? Please name them and the reason for your preference/dislike.
    • Not quite, but biased towards Intel over AMD - for reasons I'm unaware of :|
  10. If you will be playing games then which type of games will you be playing?
    • Likes of Assassin's creed series, GTA, and whatever is to come
    • Racing - Grid at medium to high settings
  11. What is your preferred monitor resolution for gaming and normal usage
    1. Desktop - 1440x900
  12. Are you looking to overclock?
    • Yes - always wanted to.
  13. Which operating system do you intend to use with this configuration?
    • Windows 8 64 bit
    • Linux - Ubuntu

    • A dual monitor setup is not needed rather invest in a good GPU, Monitor, HDD, PSU.OK.
    • CPU - Intel Core i5 4570 -13000,
    • Motherboard - Gigabyte B85M-D3H -5500,
    • GPU - Sapphire R9 270X 2GB -14100,
    • PSU - Seasonic S12II 520w -4900,
    • SSD - Samsung 840 EVO 120GB -5500,
    • RAM - Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB) 1600Mhz -6000,
    • HDD - WD Caviar Blue 1TB -3500,
    • Monitor - AOC i 2369VM 23" LED IPS -10000.
    • TOTAL - 62,500.

    • A dual monitor setup is not needed rather invest in a good GPU, Monitor, HDD, PSU.OK. --> I suppose.
    • CPU - Intel Core i5 4570 -13000,
    • Motherboard - Gigabyte B85M-D3H -5500,
    • GPU - Sapphire R9 270X 2GB -14100,
    • PSU - Seasonic S12II 520w -4900, --> Will my vx450 not be able to provide enough power?
    • SSD - Samsung 840 EVO 120GB -5500,
    • RAM - Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB) 1600Mhz -6000,
    • HDD - WD Caviar Blue 1TB -3500, --> I already have 2 HDD (500+160 GB, which should suffice. I never store junk)
    • Monitor - AOC i 2369VM 23" LED IPS -10000. --> Anything slightly cheaper?
    • TOTAL - 62,500

> Dell S2240L LED IPS -8500.

According to http://www.extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp
your total power output stands at 508w.

So your config stands like this:

    • CPU - Intel Core i5 4570 -13000,

    • Motherboard - Gigabyte B85M-D3H -5500,

    • GPU - Sapphire R9 270X 2GB -14100,

    • PSU - Seasonic S12II 520w -4900,

    • SSD - Samsung 840 EVO 120GB -5500,

    • RAM - Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB) 1600Mhz -6000,

    • Monitor - Dell S2240L 22" LED IPS -8500.

    • TOTAL - 57,500.

Unless you overclock, I don't think VX450 will have any problem handling 270X + i5 4570. Get the i5 4460 for 2k less, similar performance only 200Mhz extra turbo clock :)

Thanks, But I do like to OC it a bit here and there. Although I'm not going to push that thing to the edge. Could you suggest an OCable motherboard as well?

To be honest, an i5 4460 at stock should not be a bottleneck even if you game @ 2560X1440p. But if you are an OC enthusiast, then you should get the K CPUs with Z97 motherboards. For example, 4690k (<15k) + Asus/Gigabyte/AsRock Z97 mother boards (9-10k onwards) combination is a good start. Will overshoot your budget significantly though.
PS - I'd advise to get an SSD especially now that they've become much cheaper these days. You'll really feel the difference of an upgrade with SSD as I recently did.

I noticed your other thread. :) I'm don't want to go too much into number crunching n all. So a balanced build will be enough. Here is my List:

Samsung 840 EVO 120 GB

Gigabyte GA-Z97-D3H

Intel 3.2 GHz LGA 1150 4570 i5

Dell S2240L 21.5 inch LED (IPS)

Corsair Vengeance DDR3 4 GB (x2)

Still researching on the gfx card.

You are not gonna utilize the Z97 board unless you get a K cpu. So get the 4690k or 4670k if its significantly cheaper.
Do not get the EVO or any other 120GB SSD for that matter. I know they are the cheapest but they take a good hit in performance. You can get the Crucial MX100 256GB at 7.5k. You can take a look at the random read/write speed and IOPS count for any 120/128GB vs 250/256GB .
What's your budget for GPU after calculating the cost of everything else ? I'd suggest R9 270X if on tight budget and keeping the VX450 otherwise for 2k more the R9 280 is a no brainer.

Sabby, is there a big difference between the R9 280 and R9 270? I'm mostly ditching the vx450

R290 = 34k!
R270X = 14ish

I didn't mean R9 290, I meant R9 280. It costs around 16k. And yes, the R9 280 is significantly higher performing GPU. R9 280 is closer to the R9 280X than R9 270X. Check the reviews :) Only advantage of 270X over 280 is power consumtion - TDP is 180W for 270X compared to 250W of 280, but since you are getting a better PSU - shouldn't be a problem.

I see that 280 is priced at 22k upwards? Could you point me to where it's available for 16k?

Ahah ! What you see for 22k is R9 280X but I am talking about the R9 280 (no X). Basically, the R9 280 is a rebadged 7950 boost where as 280X is 7970 Ghz edition. the R9 280 is somehow not available in most of the online shops but here's a link from Golcha http://www.golchhait.com/index.php/build-ur-pc/product/2986-asus-r9280-dc2t-3gd5 I mailed them and they quoted 16k+vat
I bought the same card from Ankit Infotech in SP road.
