Hi guys, my sis is having 1tb wd essential external hdd.She started getting crc error and hdd is not accessible.i asked her to run chkdsk -f on the drive, which got aborted at 70 percent and hdd health check software tells hdd is in bad health. Now how can we recover the data in the hard disk.Recuva couldnt recover it.There are some very important files in the disk.Suggest any other software which can recover the data from hdd.

Could be a controller issue - pop open the casing and connect the disk to a SATA port.

If you could show a screenshot of the SMART parameters we could make sense of it.
I ll ask her to send me screenshot, mean while she called up some data recovery ppl ,they told them they can recover most of the data.charges may vary from 3k-8k.You know how girls are,now it is difficult to convince her to do my own RnD on the disk

Never run HDTune's error scan if you already know the drive is bad, it will do nothing but stress the drive.

Did you pop open the case and connect it directly to your SATA port? Just to rule out a faulty SATA - USB bridge.

I think WD's external drives are encrypted. I don't think you can access them without the controller.
