Graphic Cards budget 30k+ GPU ~ Go Nutz!

Hey All,

So I am basically sorting out some items that I am planning to buy for a brand new top of the line self assembled Computer System for Gaming and 3D applications.

I have allocated something around 30k+ for my GPU Card alone.

( Later on, I also plan to ADD another one after a few months down the road for SLI )

So, I am thinking of going with nVidia GeForce GTX 580.

Palit seems tempting with its 3gb on-board RAM in this series, but I have no clue how its Quality, After Sales, Performance/OC is...

I have narrowed down these 4 Cards, for which I need TE valued input -

1) MSI N580GTX Lightning

MSI Global ? Graphics Card - N580GTX Lightning

2) MSI N580GTX-M2D15D5/OC

MSI Global ? Graphics Card - N580GTX-M2D15D5/OC

3) ASUS ENGTX580 DCII/2DIS/1536MD5 - This Card seems problematic since its abit big and occupy 2.5 PCI-E slot ( Mentioned in the Specifications/Dimensions)

ASUSTeK Computer Inc. - Graphics Cards - ASUS ENGTX580 DCII/2DIS/1536MD5

4) EVGA GeForce GTX 580 Superclocked

I will be using a Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD7-B3 Motherboard w/ Intel Core i7 2600k proccy with Corsair HX 850 PSU.

Bottom line, I am looking for a card brand that is fantastic and top of the line with its performance/ OC and after sales rep.

Thanks.

P.S.: I have never tried ATi GPU cards till now, 6990 seems interesting, maybe with Liquid Cooling, so if anyone has any good inputs regarding it, please share and enlighten me.

Buy the AMD HD 6990 from either HIS OR Sapphire once out in India, going by the looks you're sparing nothing to create the ultimate system.

Gtx 580 is not the best vfm card out there it just performs some 15 to 20% better than 570 and its some 8k costlier than 570... So I would advice you to buy GTX570 which is selling for 20k... And btw i wont suggest you any amd card coz nvidia cards are good for 3D... I would advice you to do this... First buy one MSI GTX570 and add another one later... :)

Yeah, 38k will be the price, same as HD5970(as the final retail price for both settled at 699$).

So HD6990 is simply much much better an option

If you go with GTX 580 and add another one for SLi after few months, you will be spending nearly 60k and no doubt you have the fastest gaming solution money can buy. BUT, the power consumption is the big concern and with 580 SLi it will be > 480W alone. Though HX850 might cut it but i wouldn't risk SLi on same PSU because 240W for each card isn't a right TDP as NVIDIA cards actually have found to consume much more than the given TDP, a good example is GTX 480.

I'd suggest you to wait a week or so and see where HD6990/GTX 590 would be priced at. Also, may we know at what resolution will you be gaming?

Thanks all, appreciate the inputs.

I will be using a single LED Monitor, probably 24" 1920 x 1080 HD, or go for 27" one for now, still searching for that perfect one.
Suggestions are welcomed in this matter.

About the PSU, I can easily switch to Corsair 1000w if you guys think it wont handle GTX 580 or 570 SLI.

And as far AMD Radeon HD 6990 Antilles goes, I have read a few reviews where it was stated how horribly HOT and noisy this card is, but then again 590 fails more worse

If there be Liquid Cooling with 6990, that would be wicked ;)

Btw of all our good TE members, Hades your PoV seems interesting, maybe go with GTX 570 SLI right off the bat, will think about it.

If I were you I would get a single 6990 and be satisfied. Other than that there isn't any option which is as good unless you want CF of mid level cards. Personally, overall, most people would agree that a single 6970 would be a better value buy. However if you really want to spend do it on a 6990!

For 1920x1080 all the cards mentioned in this thread will be underutilised
True... I dont know why OP is looking to buy GTX580... A single GTX570/HD6970 is more than enough to play current games @full HD with all the settings maxed out...

@bad_jedi

Buy only a single MSI GTX570 now... it would be more than enough for your usage to game @1920x1080 resolution... Save some bucks by going with GTX570 and invest that money in a better monitor like Dell U2411H or in U3011H (2560x1600 Resolution) if you are gonna do SLI in the future...

At 1920x1650, a GTX570 or 6970 will chew up any game you throw at it.

+1 to this suggestion.

Nope! To play Crysis 2 at max at 1920x1080 with 0 AA @ 60 fps, you need an oced 580. For Crysis 1, you need more than a mere 580 oced. and for AA you should think only of a 6990 or higher, and am talking of about 60 fps avg, not 30-40 fps.

He would be able to play 90% games @ max settings... And even i know that Crysis 2 requires more GPU power... And i put these type of games in the 10% category... Spending 38 to 40k just for a single game is really not worth in my opinion... For other 90% games HD6990 would be overkill... And BTW monitor can only handle max 60FPS... And your eyes really can't find a difference if one game is running at 60FPS and another @100 or 200FPS..

There are many games like Crysis 2, Crysis 1, Metro, Split Second @ Ultra, GTA 4 at max without tweaking etc!

And for the remaining games he will be able to use 8x/16x AA which a 6970 can't. And for games of the near future, like BF3 and other Q3/Q4 releases of 2011, the 6990 will be needed to play the most intensive games at 1920x1080 4x AA or lower!

I Disagree... The games that you have mentioned above are old except Crysis 2 and i hardly think OP would play those games... And according to me GTX570 can handle future games like BF3... If not then games developing companies gives the right to the users to lower the settings to have the most smooth gameplay experience... Well i think we should leave the rest on the OP... If he wants to buy GTX570 or HD6990 he can buy whatever he wants at the end of the day its his money... And i think OP is smart enough to decide whats good for him... ;)
