my frnd is looking for a lappy..help me out here:) ...
What's your Budget? (e.g. >30K, not more than 50K etc.)

mmm, a black box....well lets say 60,000..lower the better

What will be your primary usage for the notebook be? (e.g. web surfing/office apps/Casual Gaming)

for use during domestic travel only.....web and office application mainly...he travels a lot, so some movies and music to kill time
What size and weight considerations do you have? (e.g. Do you want a 17" desktop replacement or you want an ultraportable 12" or something in between)

14" max...prefer something light and small

Any brand that you prefer, or any brand that you detest? (e.g some would prefer to stay away from Acer or Dell)

any brand(will buy from mumbai)

Any other considerations? (e.g Battery life; Widescreen/non-widescreen; Glossy/Matte screen etc.)

screen should be decent enough to watch movies

Vostro 1400 from dell

he wants a light machine

is m1330 and m1200 better??....or is vostro1400 a better performer

the performance is a function of the specs...

You can spec a 1400 higher than a XPS 1330 but that does not make it a better machine

Since you want a light machine that will be used for travelling, good build quality and light weight become important...

You can choose between the 13.3" XPS 1330 (sturdy, great screen, good build)

or if a Turion works for you, the the HP TX1000 series is a really sweet 12" , small & light tablet in the 50K range with decent build quality too

In your budget, get a Inspiron 1420 or a Vostro 1400. Dell XPS 1330 is a better option but will exceed your budget. And Macbook even more.

+1 for XPS 1330.

I got a vostro 1500 recently and oh man, its so heavy( 3.4kgs with AC adapter)...

You can even look at the HPtx1000 series lappys(12.2").light, tablet functionality etc. but it comes with AMD X2 and not intel C2D. Price arnd:60k

Vostro... go for it..Im writing this post on it.. n it really cool...

Not much design wise but a real performer...

N d thing wid dell is dat u can squeeze a lot outta dem..warranty n stuff..

or else id suggest waiting for some time...dell is getting really aggressive in india..
Also waiting a few days is recommended cause the current lineup of most of these configs is getting old...

Else get one of those stunning HP ones...worth if u get a good price..
Guys can we deal with hp directly in india??

Vostro isn't cool with its boxy loks and armbreaking weight...it's a decent functional machine..nothing more, nothing less...

Also, nearly all Vostros have terrible screens with the worst backlight I have ever seen...
