Android 4.1 JellyBean update now available for Nexus S owners




The Android 4.1 update is now being made by Google to Nexus S owners via an OTA (Over the Air) update. The download weighs in at 114 MB and is only being made available over WiFi.

The Update adds in the following elements :


  • Project Butter which makes Calendar, People App, Dial pad and Chrome browser faster
  • Better notifications for Calender events, data usage, SMS and MMS and Gmail
  • Swipe from the camera viewfinder to quickly review photos, pinch to zoom out to view images in filmstrip mode
  • Gesture Mode for blind users to reliably navigate the UI using touch and swipe gestures with speech output

It's sad that carrier's aren't updating their phones with Jelly Bean.

I think Google should do this. Push Jelly Bean themselves. And carriers just install their custom SKIN, like the thin additional layer it is, and push their update.
 
^If only it were that simple. The skin is not that light and is deeply integrated with the OS. They also have to test it extensively with their custom apps before they can pass it on to the customer...
 
Google cant force anyone to do anything. They only provide soure code to others to start working on them. Anyone can pick them up and start developing... Alot of factors go while they are working on the software to get it to work, most importantly writing and creating the right scripts to get the software to work properly with the hardware. The company's need to get that to work or at least release their codes to others to start developing on the same. That's where custom roms come in. Anyone can as long as they know how to.
