Real market prices could be lower than the ones mentioned on the site. If its around or just under 9k, this is a very good budget-value card which I myself will consider. If its 10.5-11, then I'd rather pay 2.5k more get a 8800GT. This is what the 3870 should have been priced at in India for it to make sense ~10-11k when the 8800GT was around 14-14.5k. I wonder how many 3870s were sold in India.

Just saw review of 9600GT vs 3870 at Anandtech yesterday. The 9600GT was quite good if not better than the 3870 and of course now with the prices its definitely better.

Why would anybody buy 3870 forget 3850 with 9600GT cheaper? Seeing the Palit for 9.7k is sweet. What are the street prices of these at Lamington?

If priced similar or less to 9600 GT, HD3870 would be a great choice because of its high quality video rendering as well as 5.1 surround audio. The performance in games is similar, give or take a few games. The HD3850 seems to be the biggest loser here. Just my 2 cents.

a sweet overclocked 9600GT can even touch d performance of 8800GT Stock so if anyhow 9-10K will sure b a best budget-mid range card... by d way 3870 at india still struggle for its comparatively low VFM against 8800GT and 9600GT both.... so 9-10K for a 9600GT and 13K for a 8800GT wud b d best choice according to buyer's budget.... both r actually gr8 card...

u can get a 8800 gt for under 12k now(yes 512 mb), unless 9600 gt is closer to 9k does not make too much sense at 10k unless ur really on a budget

Yantra prices used to be all inclusive (taxes+shipping) and they also offer 5% discount for online payment. Real world price should be much lower compared to online shops.

The right price for a 9600GT is 8-9K, considering u get a 8800GT at 12k.

Coz though in all games the 9600GT maybe very close to 8800GT .. in later games when graphics become heavier, the power of the extra 48 shaders will be used and the 9600GT will lag behind the 8800GT.

9600GT is now giving 50FPS, 8800GT 60 FPS ... both are good.

But see after a year, the 9600GT will give 20FPS(talking in general, not about all games, just an example) which is not smooth, but the 8800GT will still manage 30+ FPS due to its extra shaders.

Thus 8800GT has a longer lifetime than 9600GT.

Even now, when u turn Crysis to Very HIgh n test the cards, 9600GT lags behind consideably.

^^ LOL but real world does not work that ways, after sometime games will be coded for a diff API, which will result in both 9600GT and 8800GT getting obsolete in the same go. History is the proof for eg 6600GT vs 9800pro (mem buswidth)

That ways even an HD 3850 with 112 stream shaders be a much better buy ?

Aces, i m talking about cards with same architecture as G92 and G94 have no architectural difference.

Wat was similar between 6600GT & 9800Pro in terms of architecture.

^^how do you know whether the architecture is same or not?? :p

i guess if its 64 shaders vs 112 and the performance difference is around 20% , sumthing must have changed :)

Well no on apart from Nvidia would know the difference, a simple implementation improvement in how the shaders communicate with each other can bring about a huge performance improvement. Besides the NV engineers would have studied the latest games, and checked how the game devs use the shaders or how the devs use the CUDA lang to simply tweak the shader architecture. The result is for you to see, there is very little real world difference in performance and the price differential easily make it a better VFM then a 8800 GT.

Regarding 9800 XT vs 6600GT when the G6xx (was it NV40 ?) series came out no one expected a 128bit GPU to outclass the then best GPU 9800XT. On paper 9800 was better but driver as well shader implementation made the 6600GT a much better card

i dont know why the hell ppl start comparing the 9600gt with the 8800gt...its going to replace the 8600gts for heaven sake....wen the 98`s comeout den bring the 8800`s......

^^The comparison is solely due to the price.. 10k is quite close to the price of a 8800 GT which on paper seems a lot better

^^ejjactly!!!!

nvidia has done the pricing with something in mind...as days go by maybe the price settles at at shade above 9k..

from wat percieve once thewhole plethora of 9`s comeout this is how its gonna be....

the 9500gt with specs eerily similar to the current 8600gt will replace it and maybe nip at the heels of the gts...

the 9600gt clearly replaces the 8600gts and as days go by this will nip at the heels of 8800gt..

and den the 9800`s step in to take it further up in the series...
quite naturally 9 series will "appear" to be costlier than their counterparts for they will enjoy the price diff wrt to perfo ,even considering the price drop by ati`s 38XX series...
Nvidia is very well aware how da market is and knows how ati responds with its price drops....they have come out with the 9series keeping future games in mind...me or anybody commenting on future game architechtures and how well the future drivers will help in implementing it, aint wise..
