hey guys, i have an iphone 3GS bought factory unlocked and it is on OS 4.0 and modem version 5.13. what do i jailbreak it with?

Nice buy, i've got a white 3GS myself. even I didn't want to mess up my phone by installing a lot of garbage after jailbreaking, but i feel it is essential. jailbreak + just install important stuff like SBSettings, some tweaks, winterboard, Installous etc. and use SBSettings to hide default apps...

it's possible now. only the unlock is not released yet for 3.1.3 and probably won't be until after 4.0 is released. go to spiritjb.com for an easy, untethered jailbreak even for 3.1.3

Yeah, thats what I meant.. most people here should know that you don't upgrade firmware blindly on a jailbroken/unlocked iPhone without first checking if the dev team has released an unlock for it or not.. if someone upgrades blindly then its not the seller's fault and they can go pay some guy...

Yeah I can sell it at a much higher price here. What does that have to do with this? I already have an unlocked 3GS bought from there on contract since I live there for majority of the year.

so it should be out by fall atleast, which is when i'll be going back. i don't think apple can afford to delay this one.

i don't think you can downgrade your baseband though, so you won't be able to unlock :| NEVER update without making sure an unlock exists for the new version :P

dude i would suggest doing a clean restore of 3.1.2 and start the phone off fresh with just essentials installed.. jailbreaking and unlocking 3.1.2 is easy but restoring it will be a little tricky. plenty of guides available though, just search

which network are you on? airtel?

is it updated to 3.1.2 atleast or im guessing since it was with your aunt it's on some ancient firmware

jeez, blackra1n and blacksn0w has been real unstable for me.. today was like the 4th time i've restored and re-jailbroken and unlocked my phone in the last 2 months. and the last time i made sure to barely install any jailbroken things too, just SBSettings and AppSync :S
