Couple of days back I purchased a BSNL 3G SIM card for backup 3G connection in case my net defaults.

SIM card got activated on 17th. I recharged with Rs.20 for 100MB data valid for 3 days, for speed testing purpose. I put it in Samsung Galaxy Ace. There are three network modes in this cellphone. Following is description of status of network/data connectivity.

GSM Only mode
Network: Dolphin BSNL3G
Data connection: EDGE works

GSM/WCDMA - Automatic mode
Network: Dolphin BSNL3G
Data connection: EDGE works

WCDMA only mode
Network: Phone is not able to register on network.
Data connection: nothing works

Does this mean in my area there is no 3G connectivity either from Dolphin (MTNL) or BSNL ? Do let me know on how to go about it.

PS: All the time only two APN were present in device; CelloneWest_WAP and CelloneWest_MMS

panvel gets mtnl connectivity. so dombivali should.
although there are shadow zones available along the borders of mumbai. where in the not available operator has better signal strength than the one who belongs in the circle.(both range are bad BTW) with one or two signal bars.
you could do nothing except blame your luck

EDGE network is full 4 bars and EDGE data works fine too. Only issue is 3G
Looks like have to consider it as opportunity cost of spending 300/-.

BSNL APN: bsnlnet

Nothing else, keep everything blank.

Also keep on toggling data connection on off 2-4 times till you get a H data connection

MTNL BSNL have data roaming free in each others circle.

So today I tried different cellphone, galaxy Y. It got registered on Dolphin, with 3G network (network type - HSDPA) with signal strength of approx 80-90dBm. Toggled data network just once and its now working :joyful::D

Tested twice on speedtest and results are as follows;
Test 1 - Joister, Mumbai
Ping - 120ms
Download Speed - 1.33Mbps
Upload -0.3Mbps

Test 2 - Vodafone, Mumbai
Ping - 207ms
Download Speed - 1.41Mbps
Upload -0.3Mbps

I m quite ok/happy with the speeds as for backup connection for surfing/mails/small downloads, this speeds are quite decent.

However I m still wondering whats wrong on my Galaxy Ace o_O

PS: This post is from very same connecion :p

Suggest me compatible 3G USB modem for using with this. Quality & reliability are prime concerns Price - as low as possible. Open to purchase used one too.

Get any netsetter or aircel dongle unlocked. Should work

Also those speeds are not any good. This is what I get on reliance 3G.

Thanks buddy. I was ok with speeds as at first place I had big doubt if it will work or not.

I had thought of Reliance 3G but keeping a spare 3G phone for it dint sounded feasible.
