I have contacts saved in my xperia, now when I sync this phone with my Gmail, only one way sync happens, Gmails contacts gets updated in phone but phone contacts does not get updated in Gmail Contacts. Any settings anyone can advice whereby 2 way sync can happen? I also tried to backup contacts in Android, it saves them in .vcf format, and it just saves email ids not numbers. Any help will be appreciated.

While creating contacts you usually have the option of where you want the contacts saved - phone or google. Contacts will only get synced if you choose google.
You can try any of the contact exporter apps in the play store, or use myphoneexplorer (requires you to install software on your pc) to backup your contacts.
Then import them into your google account through your browser, and then sync your phone.
You'll have a lot of duplicate contacts now, and you can a) either delete your phone contacts, b) try merging them or c) hide them using the display settings in your contacts app.
