Awesome. Next up - an Idris!!! :) No no, it wasn't anything like that. Saving the game state in non-instanced situations was always available but with a "drawback". Here's how it works - ----------------------------------- Q. What happens on a disconnect or rage quit? Do I lose a life? A. When you disconnect (or otherwise quit in flight) the server attempts to take you to “auto pilotâ€. If you’re in a space instance (i.e. not already in warp/ auto pilot) and close enough to a hostile the server will attempt to gain enough separation to enter auto pilot. If it’s successful the server will then place your ship back on the planet you last landed on. If not, and you haven’t managed to reconnect to your AI controlled ship before the hostile destroys your ship it is assumed you ejected successfully and will be returned to the last planet you landed on. ----------------------------------- What the "Hibernation" stretch goal allows is for you to enter stasis in mid space and resume from there itself. The only condition being that you are not in a combat instance prior to Hibernation, for obvious reasons. With the currently available option, a non-instanced disconnect would have placed you on the last planet you landed on. So the difference is, you can potentially save a lot of time (if you're exploring far out) and want to hibernate rather than face a "position reset" so to speak. At least thats my interpretation of the new "hibernation" stretch goal. As someone who is going to do a significant amount of exploring, the hibernation stretch goal is very important to me. BTW, you're worried about power failures? Hell Spin, my ISP is so pathetic that its "normal" for me to have disconnect/reconnect problems at least 4-5 times EVERY DAY. Now just imagine my situation. Suppose I am in a combat instance and winning a battle (by fluke) and my idiotic ISP disconnects - I am pretty much TOAST as the enemy ship will have a sitting duck to aim at with no danger of getting killed. Will definitely be changing my ISP when SC is finally released.
