50-55k

2. What is your existing hardware configuration ?

CPU - Intel Core 2 duo 1.6Ghz
Motherboard - MSI make not sure of model
RAM - 2GB [dynet i think]
Monitor - Acer 19 inch
SMPS - not sure.

[the desktop is Acer aspire IE3214 - so not sure of separate components ]

3. Which hardware will you be keeping ?

Only the hard disks [one 500GB + one 1TB] . Planning the sell the rest

4. Which hardware component are you looking to buy ?

I need suggestions regarding motherboard and SSD. I see the price of MSI board i mentioned is very less compared to ASUS board for H67 chipset. So is there a big difference in performance ?

I am planning to use the SSD as boot device. Is it worth spending 5.6k ? will there be a huge performance difference between SSD and seagate 1TB 7200.12.

Any suggestions will be appreciated. thanks.

As you are not looking to over-clock this is a better configuration --

Intel Core i5 2500 ~ 11000/-

ASUS P8H67-M ~ 7500/-

G.Skill TRIDENT 2GB x 2 1600MHz CL-8 ~ 3000/-

AMD HD 6670 ~ 6000/-

Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 1TB ~ 2700/-

Dell U2311H Ultrasharp ~ 15500/-

Corsair VX 450 ~ 3500/-

NZXT Gamma ~ 2100/- + Cooler Master R4 120mm x 2 ~ 650/-

Altec Lansing BXR 1221 ~ 1100/-

An AMD Llano based cheaper solution would be --

AMD A8-3850 ~ 7000/-

Gigabyte GA-A75-D3H ~ 7000/-

[rest configuration same as above]

no need to buy graphics card as the AMD on-board is enough for your needs, here is an read-up for performance between the two chips -- AnandTech - AMD A8-3850 : An HTPC Perspective, but the Intel HD 2000 graphics isn't enough.

The Dell Ultrasharp series monitors are the best bet as they are equipped with an IPS panel which is far superior to the standard TN panels that are cheaply available in great numbers in the market -- LCD Panel Technology Explained - S-IPS, H-IPS, S-PVA, MVA and TN

Hope this helps. Let Chennai based members point out the best shops in Ritchie street and give their spin to the configuration.

dude alpha he wants the rig for video editing. few changes required
1. more cores the better hence 2600k will be far superior to 2500k since it has HT.
2. gskill ripjaws x 8gb kit is available for 3350. 8 gb min required.
3. gpu is a neccesity. as of now only nvidia is optimized for video editing software. so a minimum 460gtx is a necessity.
4. mobo can be a h67 or z68.
5. as far as monitor is concerned new one is not advisable. new IPS are to be released. so waiting is advised.

@ALPHA17,

thanks for the suggestions :) I am considering this instead of the cabinet i specified.

NZXT Gamma ~ 2100/- + Cooler Master R4 120mm x 2 ~ 650/-

also i will get the Dell U2311H instead of the one i specified.

Can you tell me is there any big difference between ASUS P8H67-M and MSI H67MA-E35.

@mrcool63,

thanks for the suggestion.

yes. I do video editing but not a lot. I have a Nikon D7000. So i will edit the 1080p videos in premiere. Mainly i use Photoshop and Lightroom.

1. i7 2600k costs 4-5k more :( so i am going with i5 2500k.

2. okay. will buy Gskill ripjaws 8GB kit.

3. Should i get Nvidia. I don't do a lot of video editing. So guess the AMD 6670 should be ok.

4. I will go with H67. the Z68 boards are little costly.

5.. any idea when they will be released ? if it takes more then a month i will get a dell u2311h.

^^ The MSi boards sometimes end up with manufacturing defect(s), Heat-Sink not touching the chips (so chips runs hot and burns down, lost my HD 5770 from MSi in this way), but their RMA experience is very pleasent as compared to ASUS -- so prioritize accordingly. Hope this answers your query, also a general list of things --

1) as you're not going to over-clock no need to buy a Core i5 2500k, a cheaper Core i5 2500 will fit the bill, be ~ 1000/- cheaper and perform just as well, th k denotes an unlocked multiplier (helpful for over-clocking).

2) yeah a HD 6670 should fit the bill (play a few games of current @decent settings and most old-gold stuff @full settings).

3) that final choice of chipset is purely dependent on your budget so go for what fits instead of comprimising somewhere else to get a Z68 board as you're not even over-clocking and the Intel HD 2000 can handle Windows 7 on its own steam.

4) yeah as you stay in Trichy, you can ship it from IT Depot @Chennai for best prices.

Hope this solves your queries.

dude premiere pro uses the mercury engine for playback and rendering so nvidia is necessary. ati as such has certain problems with it. a gts 450 will suffice. also inbuilt gpu for u2311h is very insufficient.
new monitors will be released in august. also man smc is offering u2311h for 14k shipped. and itdepot has very inflated prices. try other online shops.

ATI/AMD cards have no problems with Premiere Pro CS5/5.5 and Mercury Playback Engine whatsoever. It is just that it will default to Software Only and you can't run CUDA Acceleration. Which makes a big difference in many cases, no doubt. But AMD graphics cards work just fine. I just assembled a Llano test system and Premiere Pro trial works just fine. Same with i7 2600 - it makes a BIG difference over the i5 2500 - well worth more the extra cost, but once again, i5 2500 is just fine for plain-jane D7000 1080p editing.

Processor Intel Core i5 2500 10200

Motherboard Intel DH67BL (B3) 5200

RAM G.Skill Ripjaws X 1600MHz CL9 4x2GB 3350

GPU

HDD

Cabinet NZXT Gamma 2100

Monitor Dell U2311H 14000

PSU Corsair CX400 / Seasonic S12II 430w 2600 / 3000

Keyboard Logitech MMKB Combo 700

Mouse

Speakers Altec Lansing VS2621 1500

DVD Writer Samsung 950

Total 40600 / 41000

For your video editing stuff you really dont require a discrete GPU... the CPU itself would handle those tasks easily as Sub suggested... And the ondie IGP would suffice for watching HD movies... And instead of MSI H67MA-E35 buy Intel HD67BL as it has four Ram slots

Thanks a lot guys. lots of useful inputs. really helpful. :)

I have a arrived at the following.

Processor - Intel Core i5-2500k [going for the K version bcoz it has HD3000 graphics. The normal version has HD2000]
Motherboard - ASUS P8H67-M or Intel DH67BL [depending on the budget, will decide it later]
RAM - G.Skill Ripjaws X 1600MHz CL9 4x2GB
Monitor - Dell U2311H
Keyboard - Logitech MMKB Combo
DVD writer - Sony/Samsung
PSU - Corsair VX 450
Cabinet - NZXT Gamma + Cooler Master R4 120mm x 2

The total cost comes around 44k. I am not going to buy the graphics card now. I will first try the above configuration and if needed i will add a graphics card around 5k.

I will build the system and update this thread.

thanks again for the suggestions. :)

If you want to maximize your productivity and minimize the time required, better go for Graphic card from Nvidia , as they are suited to large extent.

For this Nvidia GPU within 6-7K will be good enough to handle those things :)

But first let us know , how the Intel 3000 ( built in graphics ) performing in those softwares :bleh:
