Keep it simple : How do I wifi enable my pc ?

Need a real simple explanation / suggestion to wifi enable my office pc.

I bought a couple of laptops recently.

Internet enabled office pc sits in the lobby. (Hathway 256kbps)
I need net access on my laptop while sitting in my office.
Need around 20-25 mts range.

Q's -

1. I can access the net enabled rig just like its on lan right ? For any file transfers ?
2. Please suggest suitable equipment.. router etc. for the same.
3. Please suggest specific models if possible. Nothing fancy required.
4. 2 laptops and 3 phones will be using the connection. Not all at the same time. Does the router have any limit to the no. of connections ?
 
Actually the link did have a few pointers :)

1. You would need to contact Hathway for binding the mac id of the wi-fi router to ur account.
2. It also had a model of router to get (DLink DIR-300).

I'm not an expert on the best vfm wi-fi routers to get but I do recall some threads regarding the same (hint:search). To avoid the problems faced by scarezebra in the linked thread, first get any good wi-fi router. Contact hathway and tell them to register the mac id of ur router for ur connection. Any decent router would work for u and it would also have a wizard to make things easier. Once u have done the above and need help in trouble shooting ur wi-fi and security settings, post here with the exact problem u're facing.

1st step, get the router. Then hathway and then back to TE here :) . You might want to read up on windows networking too (just the basics).
