At normal viewing distance, you can't distinguish between pixels on a 24" 1080p or 27" 1440p monitor easily, unless you are very close. I sit about 60-70cm away from my monitor & 90-110 ppi is easily enough to not be able to distinguish between pixels. I have a 24" 1080p & 27" 1440p. After upgrading to the latter, now I can sometimes see that my former monitor is not as sharp (a difference of 17 ppi or so). https://stari.co/tv-monitor-viewing-distance-calculator According to this, at 79cm away from the monitor, human eyes can't distinguish between pixels. As far as high refresh rate is concerned, heck 120Hz is enough for me, but good monitors are pushing 170Hz these days. More important things that affect display quality for gaming are response time, lack of overshoot & VRR (gsync & freesync). I prefer playing games at 70+ fps for a smooth experience. But I have observed that cheaper 75Hz monitors without VRR feel laggy to me (using this at parent's place with my laptop as a temporary setup), likely because of lack of VRR & maybe poor response times. I see jitters in games. So for someone with a GPU like 4070, a 27" 1440p gaming monitor like XV272U KV is a great choice. If you are going 4K, get a 4K 144Hz gaming monitor. You need a DP on freesync monitor to use gsync.
