Components Description Price (INR)

Processor Intel Core i5 2500 10300

Motherboard Asus P8H67M-LE 6500

RAM Corsair XMS3 DDR3 4GB 1600MHz 2600

HDD Seagate 1 TB 7200.12 2700

GPU MSI R6950 Twin Frozr II/OC 16000

Monitor Benq E2220HD 8600

Cabinet CM RC-690 4500

PSU Corsair VX550 4650

ODD LG 22X SATA DVD 850

Total 56700

A HD6950 2GB and i5 2500 should be sufficient enough IMHO. You can invest the rest towards a better monitor like the Dell U2311H ~ 14k and a good UPS.

Hi darkangel thanks for replying. Sorry forgot to tell that I dont want to spend more than 2k on cabby. Also power cuts are very rare in my area so is there really a need to get a good UPS? Also the card you have specified is it the 2 GB version? Isnt it that P67 will be more future proof for upgrades?

^^CM 690 is a really good cabby but if you wanna save some bucks then you can buy NZXT Gamma ~ 2100...

Also power cuts are very rare in my area so is there really a need to get a good UPS?

If this is the case then dont buy it...

Also the card you have specified is it the 2 GB version? Isnt it that P67 will be more future proof for upgrades?

yup... its a 2GB variant... But IMO you should buy a reference version as reference HD6950 2GB cards comes with dual bios switch and are unlockable into HD6970... MSI HD6950 2GB would cost you 15.5k

@darkangel what is a reference version? Where can I get it? Also with the left money should I directly buy gtx 570 or 6970 2 GB or unlocking 6950 alone will solve the purpose. What i meant to ask is will the unlocked version give similar performance as 6970 2 GB or gtx 570. If yes then should I spend the left money to take a better mobo, as the mobo you specified containd only 2 RAM slots and 1 PCI ex16 slot?

Yes... Checkout this link: AMD Radeon HD 6950 to HD 6970 Mod | techPowerUp

You should... Buy Gigabyte H67MA-UD2H-B3 if you want 4 ram slots...

Is there any harmful effect of flashing the card. Will the power requirements of the card remain the same as it was before unlocking? Also how about gtx 570 vs unlocked hd 6950? Will the current psu be good for gtx 570?

And I saw the specification of asus p8h67m le, there it was mentioned that it only supports ddr3 1003 and 1333 so will it support the ram you specified

Okay bruv straight to the topic counter-questions --

When do you plan to SLi within 3 months / 6 months OR a year later because if you are doing it within 6 months it makes perfect sense, else in the future you're better of buying a single powerful graphic card of that time instead of SLi of two older cards ~ roughly same damages + higher thermals and power consumption.

Where did you get the highlighted prices?

Prices of same components from the main distributors site --

TheITWares - One Stop for all Gizmos!SeaSonic S12D 750 Silver 750W ATX12V V2.3/EPS 12V V2.91 80 PLUS SILVER Certified Active PFC Power Supply -- you said 5500/- when it is more like 6500/- + shipping. The PSU you've chosen can handle SLi and CrossFire with a certain margin of power to spare.

RAM is very well priced and I can vouch for G.Skill damn good value and looks, plus great performance -- G-SKILL[ Trident ] PC3-12800 / DDR3 1600 Mhz/cl-8-8-8-24 (2Gx2)

The monitor DarkAngel has suggested is cheaper and better performing, LED back-lit + HDMI support, absent in the monitor you've mentioned.

I say get your PC sourced from Bombay, much more options and variety of peripherals than in Pune.

The unlocked AMD HD 6950 is a HD 6970 which performs at par with the nVidia GTX 570 in most games and even pulls ahead -- Bench - GPU11 - AnandTech :: Your Source for Hardware Analysis and News -- AMD HD 6950 2GB vs. nVidia GTX 570 @5000/- price difference, you get similar performance + EyeFinity support for multi-monitor support.

Bench - GPU11 - AnandTech :: Your Source for Hardware Analysis and News -- AMD HD 6970 vs. nVidia GTX 570.

I say get the graphics card depending on what titles you want to play. As games like Civilization V are partial to nVidia's massive tessellation capabilities, while in most other games AMD pulls ahead of the nVidia card, runs on lesser power as well. Hope this helps.

Thanks a lot for replying dude you made my day, cleared all my doubts. I think you are right I wont be doing XFire or SLI in next 6 months and after a year or so it would be better that I a buy single powerful card.

Keeping the above point in mind I am planningto buy gtx 580 right away by increasing my budget to 70k.

New rig:

i5 2500k - 11650

Gigabyte p67a-g55d - 9600

Zotac gtx 580 - 26900

PSU - please recommend that can handle the above GPU (cheapest)

Benq G2220 - 7850

NZXT gamma - 2100

Seagate 500 7200.12 - 1700

Gskill 4 GB - 2500 (or if budget permits Gskill CL8 - 3000)

Yes I will be going to mumbai next month to buy all these and I hope street prices will be lower than online ones.

Please give ur suggesyions guyz :)

even though power cuts are rare, do you really want to risk that 'rare' power cut which may fry your 15-30k costing components? really? it's not worth the risk. think of the ups as an insurance...

the downside of flashing-unlocking, you stand to void your warranty.

Flashing HD6950 into HD6970 doesn't void the warranty... actually its just a BIOS mod... If anything goes wrong in the flashing process he can easily set the BIOS switch to "2" and recover the BIOS... :)

@techy

GTX580 is overkill for 1920x1080 Resolution... Buy HD6950 2GB or HD6970/GTX570... i am suggesting these cards over GTX580 coz these cards performance per dollar is high as compared to GTX580... :) GTX580 performs just a little better than GTX570 and costs 8k more...

Just remove the GTX580 from the above config and add HD6950 2GB (If you are ok with the unlocking thing) or HD6970 or GTX570...

also add a decent cooler like Hyper 212+ in the above config if you would be overcloking your proccy in the future.... Stock HSF is just shit not good for even running the proccy @ stock clock... ;)

Its a MSI not Gigabyte. You want to spend 27k in GPU and 8k in Monitor!!! Go for a GTX570/HD6970 2GB ~ 19.5k-21k and invest in a larger/better monitor like the Samsung P2350 ~ 10.8k or Dell U2311H ~ 14k

For motherboard you can go for the Asus P8P67 ~ 10.1k if no SLI/XFIRE or if XFire/SLI is needed then Asus P867 PRO ~ 11.6k

Seriously the NZXT Gamma and cheapest PSU for such a rig!
My min. recommendation the CM RC-690 ~ 4.3k and Corsair TX650 ~ 5.5k for non SLI/XFire(I dont think S12D 750w sells for 5.5k. Its the newer SS-750JS which doesnt have detailed reviews in major sites) In case of SLI or XFIRE better go for a modular HX750 or the Seasonic X series!

My HD6950 successfully unlocked into HD6970, gannu's HD6950 too... and there are many users on TE who successfully unlocked their HD6950... See even if the HD6950 that you would buy if incase it doesn't unlock then its pretty much good enough to handle games @ FullHD Resolution... I bought it for 16.5k and now it is selling for just 15.5k... IMO its total VFM card... ;)

(I dont think S12D 750w sells for 5.5k. Its the newer SS-750JS which doesnt have detailed reviews in major sites)

its not even available... :)

I am done with the folowing components

G 2220 HD

Hd 6950 (will try to unlock)

i5 2500k

Gskill [trident] cl 8

Just help me with the following and we are done

I wont be doing sli/crossfire

Mobi - gigabyte p67a-u3d / asus p8p67

cabbi - cm 690 II advanced / NZXT Gamma ( as no muli-GPU ) / CM - 690 RC

Psu - suggest a psu that can handle future powerful single gpu cards

Seasonic S12D 750 / Seasonic S12D 850 / CM TX 650 / CM silent pro 700 M / Coarsair HX 650/ any other

Thanks for all your help guyz. Waiting for your replies

Processor Intel Core i5 2500k 11250

GPU MSI HD6950 2GB 15500

PSU Corsair TX650 / HX650 5400/6500

DVD Writer Samsung / LG / Sony 950

Total 59600/61000

Buy a good mouse like Razer Deathadder or Logitech MX518 if you dont already have one... Would help you in FPS games... ;)

TX650/HX650 is more than enough for even the most power hungry GPU like GTX580...

Also buy a good cooler like Hyper 212+ ~ 1.9k if you would be overclocking your proccy...
