a friend just purchased a gainward powerpack ultra 1760 pcx with 128 mb, by default the core and memory speed of geforce 6600 is 300/550, but this card has 300/400. does anyone else have this card??? just wanted to find out incase he got a fake card.

p.s.- it was purchased from mediatech, when enquired they say its the same card sold at all places.

any input will be appritiated.

That might be the 2D clock speed. Change the option to 3D and see what the speeds are.

his core clocks are same 300Mhz ..... he is talking about the memory clock ....which is 400 and sud be 550 ..... but i think there are many 6600 which are downclocked to reduce the price .....

^^Very true. 6600 cards don't have a fixed memory speed unlike the 6600GT which must be 1GHz. So manufacturers use crappy memory to cut costs. 2D/3D clocks only refer to core clocks. Memory clocks are unchanged.

its nothing about gainward ..... if u want a low end card then u will get this ..... after all they have to cater all the market segments ....

^^ I second that, it must be a really cheap lower-end model which they must have intorduced as a cost-cutting measure...

but he dint get it for a cheap price he got it for normal 6600 price paid 6500 + tax for it. had it to go for it coz there was no other choice, other brands were not avaliable here (goa), they still are not. do u guy think he should stick with it or return it???

can u post wat kind of performance u are gettiing and wat u expect ...... because even with better ram performance improvement will be little .....

well havn't run any benchmarks on it but did play quake 4 @ 1024*768 at high details with 2x aa, n also tried lost coast at the same resolution with everything on high details. the games ver running very smoothly. even tried fear demo but at medium details that too worked pretty well.

@ nikhil: the only other card he can get is xfx from rashi, but even they r saying its outdated, if they somehow arrange the card they wont give support for it later if something goes wrong

xfx is not avaliable as i mentioned before, and even if rashi arrages it they clearly stated that they wont give support for it later if something goes wrong

Try overcloking the ram first;he may hit close to 600mhz if its samsung 4ns memory.Aren't the GDDR2 versions of the 6600 available back there yet? Those things pack a lot of punch for $120.
