PC Peripherals DVD-R on Primary IDE channel?

Hi all, I was planning on using only one SATA drive and not using my PATA drive. In this case with only a SATA drive running, can I now plug in my DVD drive's IDE cable into the primary IDE channel? Sorry if this is like a noob question.

Yes you can.

I have also done that with my PC.
 
Keep in mind, that if you have your primary drive on the same IDE channel, then its not recommended, since only ONE device on a channel can be active at a time.
