Apple and Samsung Capture 99% Of The Phone Industry Profits

If you're not Samsung or Apple, it's not a very good time to be in the Smartphone business. According to the newest report from Asymco, Samsung and Apple have been accounted for 99 percent of the total mobile profits, with HTC taking the other 1 percent.

Apple had the largest share of that 100 percent, stacking up a staggering 73 percent full profits. Only three companies made full profits, Apple, Samsung and HTC, in that order, though HTC had only 1 percent of those profits. Samsung had a respectable 26 percent share of the profits.

Apple and Samsung are benefiting from being the two top vendors in the smartphone market currently. Combined profits from the top eight vendors from Deviu's report has gone up significantly from US 5.3$ million to US $14.4 million.

And now, with the launch of HTC One series, and the impending launch of the Samsung Galaxy S III these two will probably increase their share in the market further, and maybe overtake Apple by the next year, which apple currently have even without having the high market share.

Hopefully the ones loosing share start innovating instead of bowing out. Otherwise the whole ecosystem will be stagnant.

#[member='Aman27deep'], exactly, The problem is when there is only a very small number of players(monopoly is bad, look at Google. Duopoly is almost as bad like you said), they can make a pact and reduce cost competition, stop innovating cuz well they dont need to. At the end of the day, we the consumers will pay the price
