My friend is looking to relocate to Kochi. He has few questions regarding where to stay (he is looking for rented appartment near InfoPark) and how costly is the city in terms of food, shopping etc.

Consider as a C class city, single bedroom flat rent will be ~Rs.15-20k, expenses will be in similar range (will not be very near to infopark though).
Try to find areas near Kochi metro for easy travel.
There are IT companies, an influx of people from other states, so you mostly will find variety of food options, but will have to looks out for specific kind of joints.
For shopping, there are enough options including Lulu mall and many others.

Hi,

There are plenty of apartments in Edachira (around 2 kms from infopark). I stayed there between March 2020 - Feb 2022. For a 2.5 BHK flat in a Green Vista Prakkriti was 18.5K. And this was just before covid, and the rent was not influenced by epidemic. All basic amenities are there within the walking distance.

There is shopping complex in between inforpark and Edachira. Good friendly shops and great restaurants. There are 4 banks (Axis and ICICI in the complex), and SBI is also very near towards Edachira junction.

And most people were also good and friendly. Even if you friend doesn't have a bike or car, then also he can stay there.

Only 1 problem, the maid charges around 3-4K for cleanings utensils and cleaning (Jhaadu Poocha). But they are way better than the maids we employed in Mumbai or Thane.

In Edachira, there were few boys hostels as well, and plenty of female hostels. The female PGs also provide pickup and drop to infopark.

Kerala is really beautiful, if someone have their own vehicle then every weekend can be instagram worthy. Kochi is relatively at the center, and every tourist destination is within 150 kms.

Thank you.

Kochi dude here- metro is far from the Infopark, and the 'nearest' stops (HMT Junction / Palarivattom) require you to travel through the terrible bad traffic for roughly 10kms, either direciton.

On top of what @saikatck has said-
Most parts of Kakkanad are residential areas, so you'll have to travel a bit to reach shopping points, unless you find a place close to some of the main roads. Having a two wheeler would be really helpful. Uber / Ola is slightly more expensive in Kochi compared to Bombay / Bangalore. Cycling is not an option as Kakkanad due to steep elevation differences, pretty much hilly-like in some areas. If he's going to stay in an apartment, its necessary to probe from nearby residents about how the water situation is in summers.

You can expect to spend 10-20k on rent, and about 15k on food (home food). All in all you can stay comfortably under 35-40k (studio flat + maid).

Can try to help if you have any specific questions.
