I think the ultra wide is really only desirable if you're a gamer who plays a lot of first-person shooter games where you need the extra peripheral field of view.

If they are just ATA lock codes, we can remove them from pretty much any drive and keep the data intact. But, it's not a service we provide for free. Would you be inclined to send the drives out to a data recovery lab and pay to have them unlocked?

Are you saying an ATA lock is set on the drives or that the BIOS is locked? Have you tried removing the drives and reading in another computer?

If it's being recognized like that, it's not likely to be a USB cable issue. Most likely it's bad sectors in the partition table or file system preventing it from mounting. Unless you need data recovered, I'd just RMA it.

+1 for Synology. I have one unit (DS212) I've been using for about 6 years without so much as a hiccup or crash, and now another DS1813+ that I run. The variety of plugins for it are awesome, so you can make it do about anything.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Most good NAS devices such as Synology will let you group whatever disks you want together, including just leaving a disk as a single. Create a volume on each disk, create a share on it, map it, and you're done.
