Seven Psychopaths

In Bruges
"In Bruges" serves as a reminder that it is the script and the quality of the direction that makes a film. Why Hollywood thinks they can just throw money into a project and expect people to come to the cinema is beyond me.

These looks like fun movies to watch

Layer Cake 7/10

Didn't know about this one. It's an OK watch. Not the best of British gangster. Director debut of the Producer of the better lock, stock and Snatch movies. The one that got Daniel Craig noticed and considered for the next Bond.

Just goes to show you can have best actors, best budget, best production but if the story does not have legs then the movie will be a flop.

I've used imdb's ratings for over twenty years and it's been a reliable indicator of whether a movie was worth watching. Anything 7 or more is worth considering. If it's 8 or more then it's a must see.

This system of voting is way better than text reviews you see in newspapers which I've never got comfortable with or were overly critical for no good reason.

Also since imdbs reviews get voted on they are pretty decent. Not paid like you see on amazon
Imdb is the most reliable with few conditions - non reliable for new releases, should reduce rating for movies with superstars and pure comedy movies will have less rating than other genre.
Imdb rating + trailer is all that's required to decide what's good.

The Holdovers - 8/10 good warm movie, loved it
Dunki - 6/10 - Good first half, really really bad second half
Animal - 0/10 DNF, i tried my best but couldn't complete the movie
Please Don't Destroy: The Treasure of Foggy Mountain - 6/10 it was meh, probably good if someone's tripping

How do you find it for Indian movies?

For equally good ones, indian movies are rated higher than hollywood ones. Turkish ones seem even higher. Just like genre, regions have their variations. But reliable.
Might have to do with not enough votes. I have noticed a slight inflation with ratings for Indian movies.

Poor Things: I can't rate this! What an utterly unhinged movie this is... The ending couldn't have been more strikingly bizarre!! Also, no matter how brilliant Emma Stone was in this movie I kept wanting to see Aubrey Plaza playing the role.

Anatomy of a Fall: 7/10.

Animal
0.10/10
I'm never gonna watch it but I'll just write how I feel about Tripti Dimri's cameo in it. Nobody would care had she not been in a frame or two. The character she plays has been forced into the movie only to add that s** appeal. It's obvious that she has been "used" in this movie for that adult scene.

I felt a bit uneasy when I heard about this first. Why? Because I still remember her as "Bulbbul". I'll never forget her innocent face in that movie. I never expected that the same Bulbbul would have a "married" man, over 11 years older to her, lying full nu** atop in front of UHD cameras.

We've come a long way with movie editing and stuff. In any case, VFX could've/should've been used for that scene. She didn't have to actually go n*** in front of 4-5 men during shooting. It's sad that she has allowed herself to be used in this manner. What's sadder is her justification for this:

Her first justification: Ranbir kept asking me if I was comfortable, over and over again. ---- Ofc mam, he would do that cuz he is enjoying your body while being married to someone else. He knows he has to act as civil as he possibly can so that you let him play along. Nothing ground breaking in this.

Her second justification: I was only playing the "character". ---- Yes mam, you're "just" playing the character on screen. Po** stars also give the same justification for what they do for a living; that they are just playing the character on screen. Tripti is only fooling herself with this assurance.

It doesn't help that she is surrounded by individuals who would just reaffirm her belief in this system of thought. Pretty sure any Adult Star would pat on her back and encourage her to go more "bold". And the man "using" her will always keep asking her "Are you comfortable?", "Are you okay with this?".

Her third justification: Bulbbul was much more uncomfortable than Animal. ---- Bulbbul was an entirely different thing. While it was based on abuse, and thereby more emotionally demanding, Tripti was not the one being abused. The character was surely being abused and she had portrayed that; but she didn't actually go n*** in that. This is a plain bizarre excuse cuz the depth of character decides what's more demanding and what's not. Going n*** has nothing to do with that.

She appears to elated over the fact that her insta fan following was upped by several folds after this po** scene. Mam, a good deal of them are fappers who have followed you for what you have done.

Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya - 6/10

Fun one time watch. Kriti Sanon looked mesmerizing.
desi Ex Machina :)
regardless, it was fun to watch. 6/10 for me as well.

Fighter - 2.5/10
Movie - shameless top gun averick, rip off, with indian masala.
Soundtrack - every goddam track is stolen, the title track itself copy paste of Stayin Alive by Bee Gees.
picturization of all songs are simply copy-pasta storyboard from Pathaan, just replace Hrithik instead of SRK.
Pathetic editing. VFX, cinematography (instagram kids has better sense of angle and lighting)

Madame Web - 6.5/10
something better compared to recent dc/mcu movies....

Killers of Flower Moon. 8/10 . This is true story about Osage people being killed for their money. Leonardo and Robert DeNiro. This is quite a long movie but really tells the story very well. Must watch .

The Bridges of Madison County.10/10 ..What a Beautiful Movie. Meryl Streep and Clint Eastwood. I really love Clint Eastwood movies but last movie I saw was quite long time back. So thought will watch one of his movie and choose this movie. This is a beautiful romantic movie and bit slow too. I am not sure if it is for everyone. But if you want to get away from todays fast paced love stories and want something more classy . Definitely recommended this one.

Oppenheimer is a very good movie. Once again Nolan not trying to be a wannabe David Fincher or something with his convoluted plot lines and twists a la Inception/Tenet etc.

The movie/storyline stands on its own merit especially with a wide ensemble cast, almost as if it doesn't matter who the director/writer is - just the way I like my movies :p
