Had old F&D stereo speakers lying around. The volume control keeps acting up. What do I do to bypass it so that the speakers are always playing at 100% volume?

You can disconnect the wires from the input side and connect it directly to the speakers side matching the colors. If disconnecting the wires is difficult, short the points b and c and also a and d with a short piece of wire / jumper

Will soldering the red and white wires from the input side to points c and d respectively also work?

Would there be any difference in joining the wires together directly vs soldering it the way you mentioned? Would one be better than the other?
Already did that a couple of times. Works for a few months and then goes back to being naughty again. Sigh. Maybe I'll do that again and then solder it as a last resort.

No difference. Select the one which seems easiest. These kind of PCBs will have very thin tracks, so when soldering be careful not to overheat or the tracks will lift off and it will be a mess
