Stopped buying crackers long long time back when prices increased many fold and 500 Rupees yielded only a small polythene bag of fire crackers and moreover realized that they were polluting environment (want to do a bit) and as i see it is literally burning money and seeing it going up in smoke.

Edit: read your last line after i posted so bear with my post.

^ boss at-least spend 500, distribute to kidz around you and see the Boom!! Boom!! affect :bigok:

you will surely find, that 1 hr enjoyment is hell more worth than a 500 rupee PVR movie ticket :p

I have not purchased crackers in past 10+ years and 500 Rupees was when i was like 15-16 years of age, not today.
And i dont spend 500 on a PVR ticket, no way i would.

Stopped using crackers when I was 16. Now 8 years gone, I have done my "bit" to keep the earth clean.
@Being.smart how can we stay away from your threads :p

Nonetheless a good thread. Waiting to see some nice pics

Stopped the crappy practice ages ago. An appeal to all, please-please stop the un-necessary Pollution, its the least we Indians need.

Useless Thread should be LOCKED & such Polluting activities should be discouraged. Specially we at a technological Board have responsibility to educate masses.

Its an unjustified waste of money. i figured it out 8 yrs back. money saved on that can be used somewhere else. and btw its not the best of times to splurge right now, is it? (unless you are a business man and have posted record profits)

Profit or no profit, I feel Diwali should remain a festival of lights - not of explosions and smoke. No crackers for me - however, lighting up the house, definitely yes!

Great to see so many people against this . Me too stopped almost 7-8 years ago .
1) Pollution .
2) Waste of money .
3) Too Childish .

Q: What do you guys do during Diwali?

Count in in the anti crackers league. I stopped buying it 7 years ago. I had couple of terrible incidents with crackers. It is waste of money, bad for mother earth, dangerous for our health. Light some deepak (Earthen lamp), lanterns. Decorate your house, make Diwali festival of "Lights" only. Not smoke, big sound or whatsoever.

Glad to know that most of the TE members are aware of cons of fire crackers.

Well, this was going to happen @Being.smart. Actually, one should stop people from firing crackers. Although firecrackers make our festivals more beautiful, they are much more dangerous than joyful.

Add me to the list. Stopped buying them 6 years ago. Still like going to the terrace at diwali night and watching the color bombs go off.

i used to buy fireworks like crazy few years back .. it was really fun but then realized its not worth spending so much money on ( instead i buy some gadget etc ) .. still going to get some crackers to enjoy for 1-2 hours with friends ..

Looking at the other posts so far I can safely say you win by default :hail:

Opt for a pollution free Diwali. Be Smart :cool43:

Stopped around 5 - 6 years ago. I think it's burning the money...what's the point of buying crackers with thousands of rupees and then burning them. Total waste of money. Instead I like watching children's burning crackers.

It's much pleasant to see the houses with Diya's and lights instead of burning crackers.

Maybe, But it sure doesn't beat not buying crackers and donating that money for the kids who are in more dire need for food, shelter and education than crackers and also in the process not damaging the lungs of 100s of people around you and not making the heads of elderly ache with the noise till late in the night.

Request denied..
