CPU/Mobo Upgrade Laptop RAM from 3GB to 4 or 8GB

Hello

I am looking to upgrade to 4GB or 8GB DDR3 RAM for my Acer Laptop Aspire 5740

It already has 3GB RAM which came installed with the laptop.

As it is already a 4 year old laptop, which I use mainly as a standby, or during rare travels, will I see a marked improvement in speed if I upgrade my RAM
I am using 64bit Windows home 7 Premium and running some stock market softwares
Or should i just swap the 1GB RAM with a 2GB module for best VFM ?

CPUID shows that I am Having 3GB DDR3 1066 RAM presently.
If i replace the Sims completely, can i go for higher speed RAMS ?
Also how to verify if I can go for 4GB individual modules ?
(The online sites says maximum RAM is 8GB)

Don't want to open the laptop Sim cover as it is still sealed unless absolutely necessary

Thanks for advising

You would be limited to 1066MHz for RAM frequency with that chipset. Upgrading from 3GB to 4GB might give you placebo effect in improvement of performance. I dunn see why you can not go with 4GB stick. You might consider installing as SSD if want to see difference of day and night.
