RC1 was out a couple of days ago, going to try RC1 on kubuntu soon... KDE 4.1 RC 1 Released | Kubuntu
edit: well at least the login/logout sounds play completely now. before updating i changed the application launcher (kmenu) from kde4 to kde3 classic style, upon reboot/login it disappears, need to re-add the widget everytime. but adding the kde4 kmenu widget stays there. desktop effects like wobbly windows and coverflow window switching still look tacky... compiz fusion ftw! i guess kde4 wont be stable/complete enough till 4.2. the 4.0 release could be called an alpha and 4.1 final a beta release.
