    Questions:-
    1. Budget?
    A: INR 10K

    2. Preferred display size, type and resolution?
    A: 4.7"-5.2"

    3. Preferred operating system? (Android (with version), iOS, Windows Phone etc).
    A: Android

    4. Preferred connectivity options? (4G, 3G, 2G etc).
    A: 4G

    5. Do you have any brand preference or dislike? Please name them.
    A: No preference.

    6. What is your intended use for this phone (internet, camera, multimedia, mails etc.)?
    A: Portability. And emails.

    7. Single SIM/ Dual SIM?
    A: No preference

    8. New or Used? Online or Offline?
A: New. Don’t mind buying online

    9. Any other requirements?
A: Mom doesn't like the idea of carrying a phone bigger than the Galaxy S8 (NON-PLUS). However spending that much on a phone is definitely going to be overkill for intended usage. So, what are the options that I have? I know that Nokia 3.1(non-plus) is one, but what else?

    10. If you have already considered a phone, then please mention the model

    A: Nokia 3.1

    M1 pro = 159 x 76 x 8.5
    Note 8 = 162.5 x 74.8 x 8.6

Thats even bigger than the Note 8, leave aside the S8.

But its just on size segment which is nominal. But if you compare price wise its no.match at all. Increase budget by few ks snd you get more options.

I currently use a redmi 4 which is ~139mm long. Couldn't find any good options under 140mm, and almost bought a redmi 6 pro which is 149mm but then decided not to.

You can use the gsmarena phone finder to narrow down your options by size. for example: https://www.gsmarena.com/results.php3?nHeightMax=145&nRamMin=4000&sAvailabilities=1

Just 28 currently available phones with 4gb ram and a max height of 145mm.

Nokia 8 sirocco is a good option but outta my budget.

This is the reason i bought Redmi 4 even after the launch of Redmi 5, there was no cheap or mid-range option under 140 mm, so just bought the 4GB ram to future proof and 64GB flash which is also usually faster than 16 or 32 GB.

I was more concerned about the width, rather than the height.

    https://www.gsmarena.com/results.php3?nYearMin=2018&nWidthMin=68&nWidthMax=70

There are only 12 phones which match my width criteria.

Its a battle between asus and rn5 note pro. Its your choice altogether to either go with miui os or stock Android os. Both phones are good and comparison thrown shows both identical with just 18-20 kind of win win situations between them.
Many people are now opting for stock os and asus offers one with huge battery and a breezing experience with equally powerful ram 6gb that too at a very affordable price.
Few people around me own it and they are loving it, some being ex miui users.

Just curious, why do you always skip over the Honor 8X.

I personally think it's better than the Asus.

Has a (much) better camera, looks and build quality

USA/Australia/New Zealand complete BANNED on Huawei 5G Technology/Enquipments.

New Zealand cancel it's order for 5G Rollout/Equipment.

USA ask it's Defense Personnel not to use Huawei Handsets.

    Not surprised.

All of the data is backed up on the Chinese servers (Huawei cloud).

    Which is why.

It will be fair to say all chinese phones send and share our data with china.

Mi phones are one of the highest selling brands in india. I myself have been using them since the r2, r3s and now using redmi 4.

besides, we have no problem giving out biometric to our govt. which is the riskiest entity that could use it against us, so why would anyone think twice about giving data to china? or facebook/google (USA) etc. for that matter? It's a great big mess we're all in right now and we're just lucky no one has really exploited any of it yet.
