Its the mobos which are expensive - not the CPUs, they are available. But then again, only the DDR3 compatible motherboards are in demand.

Even still, a ddr2 no warranty mobo alone cuts down hard on the resale value. Aliexpress is selling c2d under 500 rupees now, so it's evident that core 2 duo are getting ancient now.

Sorry if I barged in on your post, i recently built a Intel c2d zeb g31 combo as my father's desktop, just for checking mails,photos and storage.
Your expected price sounded unrealistic, that's all.
