User Review I just got my 1+X and here are some initial impressions from a mi3 owner

So i have been using a Mi3 as my daily driver for the past 1 year and i recently bought a One plus X even though my mi3 has no issues. I must admit this was a impulse purchase :/. So lets get down to business

UPDATE1: PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE BUYING THIS PHONE!!!!!
GUYS THIS PHONE SPORTS AN QUALCOM 801 AA processor, the AA versions are supposed to be much slower than some 800 processor, OPO really ****** this one up :(. See the specs mentioned in the anand tech site, the graphics core is underclocked to 450MHZ, which is even slower than Mi3.No wonder the performance of games sucks. I dont think this is something that can be fixed with an update.

UDPATE2: OTG is supported, you need to enable it from storage option's

UNBOXING AND COMPARING WITH MI3:

Out of the box:
Out of the box you get a silicon cover, a sim ejector tool, US b cable and power adapter thats all no screen protector is packaged with the phone. and the phone runs lolipop 5.1.1.

Note:
IT comes with pre applied screen guard, please be careful when peeling the factory applied scratch guard, i removed the actual guard as well along with it.

Look and feel of the device:
One plus X is shorter than mi3 and has decent bezel to screen ration, both the device roughly weigh the same. 1+X is slightly more thinner compared to mi3 and definitely feels more premium and feels much more sturdy. to be frank 1+X looks a lot like the iphone 5. It has a physical notification slider which is textured and makes it very easy to change between different notification profiles. It also has a notification LED which is very nice. Glad to see that they didn't skip this since the phone already as a Super AMOLED display. The phone is more compact than my mi3, feels just like an iphone 5 in hand.

Display:
I'm yet to peel the plastic sticker that comes attached to the phone because i don't want the device to get scratched, but i can surely say that the display is much better than mi3. Super AMOLED display allows for feature's like ambient display,Dark mode. Videos look nice and colors really pop. so when it comes to display One plus X fares much better than Mi3.

General Performance:
In this area both mi3 and one plus x are identical, UI is darn smooth and responsive and i haven't faced any noticeable lags. Apps open quickly and i didnt face any significant slow downs when a app is getting installed or updated. So it is all good in this department.

Gaming Performance:
I must say one plus X disappointed me greatly in this department, need for speed Most wanted was stuttering a lot and was not at all smooth. The frame rate was all over the place for me when compared with Mi3 which has 2 gigs of ram and 800 processor.

Riptide GP2's performance was equally disappointing, there were huge noticeable stutters even when graphics settings are set to medium. Overall the game was really unplayable :(.

The device handles simple games like Rayman fiesta run very well, also the device does not heat up significantly while playing the game

About Device heating up:
I completed 2 races in Most wanted, and the device did get heated up noticeably more than Mi3.

Battery Performance:
Charged the battery fully, Played 2 races in Need for speed mos wanted, played some rip tide gp2, Transferred a movie through wifi file explorer pro, installed some apps, SOT is 1H and the battery is at 77%

Batter Test 3:
Guys, I managed to squeez out 4.5 hours of SOT from the phone, i was always on wifi, played some games, watched some video, reddit, browsing internet,m installing some games as well. battery life is ok if not brilliant

Note:
This might be due to the under clocked AA version of Qualcom SOC 801

Camera:
The auto focus in one plus X is quite accurate unlike mi3. When i was using Mi3 it was incredibly hard to focus on a subject properly but with one plus X it felt quite easy. The camera app is very responsive and it does takes decent photos, again when compared to mi3 it is just a notch better but not much. The front camera is also decent definitely not bad by any measure. Mi3 comes with dual tone flash but the level of brightness is almost the same with the two devices.

UPDATE On Camera performance!:
No manual Camera :(

Sound:
I hate bottom facing speakers because when you are watching a video you tend to cover it accidentally there by muffling the sound. The quality of the speakers are not very good, its much more louder I'd say mi3 has better quality sound coming out of its speakers compared to one plus X it's just not louder.

The audio output through headphones are not that great either, I listened to " R U MINE" by the arctic monkeys in both the mi3 and one plus x and honestly i don't like the way the song sounds in the latter, i use xiaomi piston 2 head phones and i must say the sound quality was way inferior when compared to mi3. The music distorts a lot if you crank up the volume to maximum, I never faced this issue with my mi3. . I think this can be improved by updating the OS with a native equalizer.

To sum it up, I'm quite disappointed with audio quality from speaker as well as headphones.

Final thoughts:
If i were to looking to upgrade from a moto g or a moto e, nexus 5 this would be my go to phone. I kinda regret purchasing one plus X though. it does not offer me much other than the super amoled screen and option to switch between dual sim and memory card. I suggest people who want to upgrade from a mi3 or a mi4 to wait because this phone even though it is good its just not the right time to upgrade. Please dont make the same mistake that i did.

Pros So far:
  • Sexy Super AMOLED 1080P display
  • Amazing build quality its very compact
  • Screen guard is preapplied and gel back cover is given with the phone
  • Near Stock android
  • Expandable memory
Cons so far:
  • Pathetic performance in Demanding games
  • Speaker is loud but quality is mediocre
  • Sound through headphones is not great out of box
