I have my pc on 24x7 almost, and a lot of power bills coming evry months.
So I was thinking which component to replace without sacrificing performance ?
Below are my specs :
  • CPU - AMD FX 8350
  • Motherboard - Asus Sabertooth 990 R2
  • GPU - AMD Raedon R9 270x @2 GB DDR5
  • Cooler - Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO
  • SSD - Silicon Power S70 120GB SATA III
  • RAM - Corsair Vengeance 16 GB (4+4+8GB) DDR3 1600 MHz & 1333 Mhz
  • Monitor - BenQ EW2440
  • PSU - Corsair VS550
  • Cabinet - Coolermaster Mid Twoer
  • Keyboard - Microsoft Wireless 800
  • Mouse - Razer Deathadder 2013

I use my system for heavy multitasking ( running 10+ os all at a time), video rendering & occasional gaming.

Try to change your
  • CPU - AMD FX 8350
  • Motherboard - Asus Sabertooth 990 R2
With
Intel Core i5 4590,
Gigabyte GA-H97-D3H.

Intel Processors are always Power Efficient compared to AMD FX Series Processors.

its stupid to have a machine of that config online 24x7 and try to save power
why do you need the machine 24x7?
how can you optimize s1 s2 s3 sleep states
why cant you switch to a 15w machine like an atom or a celeron for 24x7 tasks and use the above config for cpu intensive work only?

Video rendering and gaming means high CPU and GPU usage, that will definitely increase power consumption. Unfortunately, there is nothing much that you can do with the current system to lower the power usage. You can switch to Intel I5 platform and use a low end GPU like 750GTX TI, note that the 750GTX is quite old but doesn't need any external power from the SMPS and works very well.
