I have couple of old devices with and looking to replace my NAS(netgear R102) with x86 setup nas/server.
It might be overkill for type-1 virtualization but i would want to try it.

  4. Which hardware component are you looking to buy (component name). If you have already decided on a configuration then please mention the (component brand and model) as well, this will help us in fine tuning your requirement.
    • CPU - Suggest - xeon or latest skylake

>>> Thanks.. It is my understanding that these(B,Q,H &Z) mb dont support xeon's like the few of x58 motherboard did..

you could look into unraid. Factor that into cost as well. look up videos of unraid and linustechtips on youtube

I thought unriad was Freenas substitute but on checking further it more than that.. will diffidently try it out.. infact i plan to try all hypervisors..
