Google Play Family Library Now Available in India

Google Play Family Library available for select users in India

Google Play Family Library which was launched two years ago in the US and is now available in more than 20 countries may finally be coming to India soon. Google hasn't made any formal announcement on this yet but some users in India have started seeing the option. The feature seems to be in early stage as the sign-up process has not been activated yet. The official list of Google Play Family Library also does not mention India.

Some users in India may notice a new Family option under Account. Tap to sign up and go to Manage family members. In the next step Invite family members and tap on send. Once the process is complete, users will see a new Family Library option in the Play Store's side menu and any app or game you browse will tell you if it's eligible for Family Library.

What is Google Play Family Library? It is a feature offered by Google that lets a family of up to five member share purchased movies, apps, games, e-books, TV shows and audiobooks from Google Play. Rented movies, TV shows, in-app purchases and free apps cannot be shared.

The countries that are listed on the Google Play Family Library support page are Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Russia, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland, Ukraine, United Kingdom and United States.

The support page also informs about the requirements before you add a family member to the library. You should be 18 or above, have a valid credit card to use as the family payment method, live in one of the countries listed under supported countries and not be part of another family group on Google.

To join a family group, you must meet these requirements: Have a Google Account. If you're under 13 or the applicable age in your country, your family manager needs to create a Google Account for you, live in the same country as the family manager and not be part of another family group on Google.

I had that Family option from months back or so. Didn't even check it. I thought it was rolled out for everyone years back.

Glad that they're not sharing the "Google search history" with the family :p
That'l is already unofficially happening...
