I created a website focused on teaching people how to learn SQL. There are currently 2 courses that are free, one for beginners, and one for intermediate users. They both have a lot of SQL challenges so you should be able to get some hands-on experience while doing the courses.

This course will take you through the very basics and help you to write your first query. There are 20 query challenges to help you get familiar with SQL.
Intermediate - http://www.learntosql.com/course/10-queries/
This course provides no content, but rather is just 10 query challenges for you to test your current SQL skills. If you are an intermediate user and would like to build some confidence in your skills, this course is perfect for you.
You will have to register on the site, but that is so your progress in these courses can be tracked and saved.
