Storage Solutions Do WD external drives still have hardware encrpytion?

Hi newuser990,

Most of the WD external drives come with the hardware encryption. Although, our WD Elements line of external HDDs do not come with hardware encryption. Here's the link, you may have a look:

If it does have whether removing it from case and reformatting the drive..( albeit Losing all data) make it usable

When we talk about WD My Cloud NAS (The My Cloud EX) series does not come with hardware encryption. It does have the software encryption, which you can enable at the time of setting it up.

@v.Na5h, If you want to use the drive in another system after taking it out from the NAS box there are high chances of loosing the data on that drive. But you can use the drive.

There is no hardware encryption on the WD My Cloud, but you can just set user permissions through it's dashboard.
