Cannot view hidden files/folders

Dear all,

I am unable to view hiden files and folders in my laptop.
This problem has surfaced recently.

Even selecting the 'view hidden files and folders' option does not work.

Is this because of some fault in Windows Xp or some virus? I have reloaded XP Sp2 but to no avail!!

I have Norton 2008 running and this has also not showed any viruses / malware.

Can anybody help?

regards,

Rosa

The main reason might be due to a trojan...

It happens to me occasionally...

I am not sure about the fix..but you might want to google..?

This is a virus/trojan, usually comes from USB sticks if autoplay is enabled. So disable autoplay for your drives. Also look for a folder called 'heap21a' in your C drive and delete. Could be named differently depending on variants. The reg fix has already enabled hidden files so you should be able to see it now in root folder.

Yes thank you. i found the heap41a folder and have deleted it. i think the usb drives need to be scanned using norton before use.

thank you all.

regards,
Rosa
