Hi

The query or this post might be laughable. Even I don't know which forum should I post. Hence I did not give any prefix.

I wanted to buy a button camera with storage options (may be 4 gb) which can record (audio as well) or shared with my mobile. The point is I am going to built a home and need to go for approvals to various govt. department offices.

I need to record those dealings (yes) for my ref. I planned to keep a camera (i cant record on the mobile during the dealings).

Any suggestions on the Camera !!!!

Regards

So shall we leave injustice to simply unheard & grow further unheard??
This attitude itself brought us where we are right now...either bribe or better unsubscribe!

Don't bother. Recently read in TOI, a woman activist was caught with a spy pen camera in govt building taking pics and was sentenced to jail. These spy cameras are too big and the camera glass gives them away easily. Only a blind person will think you're not carrying a camera on you. Plus I think there are laws saying you cannot take pics or video inside govt buildings for security reasons.

All i'm saying is be smart. Pick your battles wisely.

If its a casual clicking with any intentions or otherwise it needs to be scrutinized.
Any building in public view is suitable for photographing. The rule of thumb starts with the concept of “invasion of Privacy” if the image includes a persons name or image that would be recognizable as such then you start to “invade their expectation of privacy”.
This was for structures and buildings.
Secondly it is very foolish to take the cam out silently or with a noise as if flaunting your stuff so imo the lady was experienced or didnt do her homework at all.

But if you are doing rounds of someone in the office and he /she is just giving you stupid excuses to avoid getting your work done or passing of file and directly or indirectly asking for some favors then you may very well use such devices As a Last resort.
And also in court only showcase this evidence in the end to turn things upside down.

You may be held guilty but you can claim innocence stating you had no other option. Everything depends on the severity of the case.

I learned this while doing street photography. You could end up in jail for taking a picture in public places in India. public places in India are not interpreted like in US or Australia.

Please elaborate. Most of us learn that in our country, things are often very different in real life than the law/rules/official systems dictate.

There is a concept of public space and private space in US/Australia. you can take a picture of anyone in a public space without permission. for example; you can take a picture of a person on road (public space) or a of a building (someone's house). but you cannot take a picture of a person in a private space (restaurant/shopping mall) without permission.

We had a lot of discussion on these topics a while back when I was learning. for example, how to "stand your ground" with situations with street photography. Many people in the western world dont like their kids photographed, Its very easy to get labeled as a pedophile for taking a picture of a kid. Many people dont like their house photographed. But they/cops cannot take away your camera or make you delete the pictures because of the laws.

But in India; there are instances where people got arrested and their cameras taken away for taking a picture of a girl in public space. Though most of the people are cool with taking photographs; The photographer is totally at mercy of people/cops. So... taking candid shots in public is really a touchy subject. And yeah, you can bribe your way out of it; but it doesn't make it legal.

My personal opinion is that many people in India relate street photography with poverty porn and they think that it should not be allowed. but here in US street photography is freedom of speech. Its a blurry line.

I understand the free for all it is in India on both sides, but i would have never imagined the US concept. In my mind, a street, restaurant OR mall are public spaces. Someone's car is a private space, but taking a photo of the car from the outside is a public space. Even if someone's sitting in it. Goddamit...

OP started a thread for recommendations for spy camera and like all things in this forum recently, it has turned to politics. Request mods to move them to separate thread.

that being said, most of the spy cameras have shitty quality since they're so small. You haven't specified your budget. So please do that.
Another option is why not use the great camera sensor already in your phone? There's an app called "background video recorder" which records video in the background while you use your phone normally. So before meeting, Just start video recording and place phone on table

same. I was taking a pic at konark temple with dslr and one dude suddenly approached me aggressively asking why I was taking pics of his wife? I was like wtf are you talking about. I was new to dslr and fumbling with settings and taking long to adjust settings and taking pics so this dude thought I was taking pics of his wife sitting near temple. I calmly explained him that I'm taking pics of temple roof and even showed him few pics I took and he said ok and just left. No sorry nothing. Even few people gathered around left. Pretty sure I would have got my ass beaten If I didn't appear like a non local guy

I remember one incident couple of yrs ago where a college student was taking a pic of a showroom which was of a well known brand. Seeing him clicking snaps the someone from the showroom came out shouting and asked him to delete the snaps.
This was almost 8yrs ago.
But to my surprise the same brand showrooms inside a mall and they don't bother to prevent people there from clicking selfies or even on-purpose snaps.
Never understood this mentality.

Thanks for the suggestion of the APP. I will definitely install it. I am not sure about the budget and availability thats why I have not mention it.

First you say this

And then post this??

OP didn't just ask about a camera, he mentioned the purpose. And we warned him about the consequences.

You are the one turning this into politics.
