I had a friend bring one over. I just checked, they're not shipping them to india.

You can root all but the latest Fire versions, community keeps hacking it though. Play store can be installed. AOSP roms too. I'm still running on FireOS but it works like a normal android tab after de-amazoning it.

I would recommend going for something with good specs one since the games and other apps are going heavy on the size and graphics.
and not be go for a cheaper but heavier one since will be difficult to handle for a kid.
