Rant about corporate information security practices

Another company that is in Mumbai has an equally puzzling directive is that - if you are a guest, and before you connect to their wifi, they will check your computer for antivirus. If you have a free one like defender, they wont allow. Puzzling enough, quickheal is allowed, but not MS defender...

Budget 0-20k Good USB C Dock for Minimal Setup

Look at the Honeywell dock, it fits your requirements (not sure about the 100W PD) - I am using it. Its about 6-7K on Amazon. Had recommend the same to @gourav but he wanted 4k60 which it did not.

Two remote office ,Single tally server

This is because of the way Tally works, and over VPN, its recommended to use any remote control protocol instead of directly accessing over SMB Have worked with companies using Tally for over a decade and have done quite a bit of R&D on it. Would suggest to look into Tally on Cloud from...

Proxmox Thread - Home Lab / Virtualization

Depends on the application you are running and if it tries to ascertain if a GPU is present. Else, not an issue.

Rant about corporate information security practices

Does that company look like its pulling out all steps towards security OR trying to only do it on paper? You can be a judge of that. BTW, Quickheal uses bitdefender engine but thats heuristics based so wont work as EDR. hence why free defender is far better than quickheal and the securite...

Rant about corporate information security practices

Ah. I can understand this, the file is being scanned - or maybe even multiple times! Dont bother and dont open your mouth, you might get the responsibility and its not easy Well, MITM does take time and effort Considering the alternatives of Quickheal and Sequrite and other crapware...

iOS Does iPhone 7 support gpay in India or not?

Rather get the SE 2020/21 version, small, but should be supported as long as the 11 and you should get it for ~20K

Rant about corporate information security practices

r/shittysysadmin would be best. Very much. So all the 3 AV fight amongst themselves for blocking access to a particular file and cripple the system? How great. BTW, are the AVs proper ones from good companies or from the likes of Quickheal/Sequrite/Net Protect Well, Zcalar is that only...

Amazon. 20K for unmanaged, 25k for managed. https://www.amazon.in/Ethernet-Multi-Gigabit-Unmanaged-Fanless-MDIXSupport/dp/B097RD15N8/ - change options to choose which you want. I will be taking a SFP plus 10G version. In my ~15+ years of virtualization, that is a bad idea. Lock it down but...

    2.5G Switch With POE

This is a generic answer to this - Check if the website is operating as a marketplace or their own warehouse model. If marketplace model, check the seller and see his rating etc and take a chance - depending on website fulfilled or seller fulfilled. I had ordered from Amazon from a third-party...

Storage Solutions Reliability of small SSD brands

Assembled maybe? Not at PCB level for sure. But I guess the plastic things are injection moulded here in India. Will speak to someone in lammy who has contacts with EVM, lets see.

Reliable preowned vendors for homelab hardware

Optionally, you can also run a full chkdsk with /r flag - this has worked well for me in the past. Look out for SMART sector realloc increases - this will indicate the drive is toast or soon to be

Storage Solutions Reliability of small SSD brands

EVM is reliable, but I dont have the long term testing data for it (got some 20 of them for previous company) to update W7 to W10 machines. My experience with ADATA has been very bad, the replacement also died. This was the boot drive for a HyperV server and nothing else.

    2.5G Switch With POE

This is the correct answer - none of your devices have a 2.5GbE uplink On wifi, you will need a better WiFi AP - something which has a 2.5G port. Something like the XE75 Pro, and you can use its downlink ports as a switch if used in AP mode, doing away with the need for a 2.5G switch
