I have activated the airtel NOP service on my airtel number here in Pune. The CC guy told me it is unlimited and can be used only on phone for full fledged internet but downloads will be charged.
I am able to access net properly through opera mini browser but want to know this download part.
I mean if say i download a 5MB Song than am i charged or what ?
Because normal data transfers are also downloads right ?Last edited by raksrules; 18 Dec 09 at 11:35 AM. Reason: na

Aircel provides unlimited internet in 98 rs which gives internet acces on mobile as well as PC. Speed is good and can reach upto 230kbps here if you get full coverage. however i dont whether it works during roaming or if you are in mumbai.
You have second option of BSNL GPRS which also gives good speed anywhere in pune but you need postpaid connection for the same. they cost rs 200 for unlimited GPRS. I dont know about charges when person is in mumbai but as per their condition they charge 10p/10KB during roaming. - 19 Dec 09 06:55 PM #3

So finally which one to take ??
My primary mobile number is of airtel and i had activated NOP on that which works fine if i am near the tower but never gets connected when i am at home.
Also about Aircel, for 98 rupees it is unlimited browsing. But AFAIK browsing also involves transfer of data, in the same way what if I download a file / song etc, how are they going to find and charge me for that ??? - 21 Dec 09 05:19 PM #7

^^ True, but that aircel guys tell "sir..agar aap kuch download karoge to charge lagega but surfing ekdum free hai". That is confusing

May be i will give it a shot and see. - 21 Dec 09 09:13 PM #9
yea the bsnl guys also say like" surfing unlimited and download is charged in 230 plan in north." but i have been using it since two years and have transfered about 10-11 gb of data per month{hail torrents} and never been charged.!

In most cases when the CC says 'surfing is free but downloads might be charged' it means that the your net usage is free from the ISP/ phone company but you might be charged by websites or other providers for content.

@Raksrules
I am using both aircel and BSNL Gprs and find BSNL provides very consistent speed while aircel speed fluctuates in some areas.
