Friends, last year I created a file in windows word Excel format, Today , when I opened it, it did open but the contents are all gibberish and illegible. How can I retrieve the contents in a legible format like English. Thanks

You created the file in Word Excel format, can you be specific as to whether it is word or excel format. Also if you can tell the extension of the file that you have created like Xlsx, docx etc.

Reason why I am asking is I suspect 2 things
1. You have created something in ms word and trying to open is excel
2. You have created using Office 2007 and trying to open using office 2003

I'm sorry I icould not express myself properly.File was created in excel, alongwith some other files in excel.One particular file is not opening while other files are opening properly.The small square box in the beginning of the filename is completely blank and does not show any file extension.

^^ Please post a couple of screenshots. Also try renaming the file with an .xls extension and open it.
