I read the sticky thread at the top and really understood a lot about how important a good PSU is.
I currently have a
Processor - Core2Quad 2.66GHz
RAM - 4GB RAM
Hard Disk - 1.5TB HDD
GPU - ATI 4850HD
Motherboard - Asus P5ND
OS - Windows 7 Retail from the Box 32 bit
SMPS - 4D ATX-400W
What is a good PSU for this machine.
I currently have a 400W PSU that works fine, except when I do some heavy animations, the screen starts to shake.
I have ascertained that the GPU is fine since, I have tried the GPU on another machine. It works fine.
I believe the SMPS is not enough to run the system.
These are the values I read on the SMPS
4D ATX-400W
Frequency 50Hz
If I need to post any other specs then please let me know.
I am a hardware newb.
I got this machine around 1&1/2 years ago for my 3d rendering.

How much is your Budget?
You can consider:
Gigabyte 460W : 2.2k
Corsair CX400 : 3-3.2k
Corsair VX450 : 3.9-4.1k
Both the Corsair PSUs are excellent and recommended. Dont go for the 460W one over the 400w one "just because its labeled power is more". Go with the VX450 for some future upgrade headroom and definitely buy it if you have the money for it.

You can also look at CM Real Power 460W which is around 3.5k...although go for the VX450 eyes closed if you can buy it. The internals of the VX450 are superior than the Coolermaster one and hence shall last longer without loss of efficiency. And also the cables in VX450W are nylon sleeve protected. [Both of them have an efficiency of around ~85%]

400W? I already have that.
Is that enough?
I'm not questioning your intelligence. I'm just a bit worried.

Dont worry buddy, you will be just fine with it. Real life Power consumption with a single mainstream GPU never exceeds ~300-350W.
The PSU you have seems generic to me..the real life performance of a generic PSU is on an Average half as labeled. (AFAIK there is no reputed PSU maker by the name "4D")
