Hi guys,
going for a camp to rishikesh next week, need to buy a torch.
Would be using it for 2-3 days, that too if needed else it will be lying around. i wont be needing frequently, as there is hardly ever power supply failure in mumbai, atleast in my area :) . Hence the small budget.

Budget rs 200 (300 max if something very VFM).

Also suggest if i should go for a regular torch or a LED one?

I would say increase your budget and go for Maglite

eBay India: MINI MAGLITEĀ® FLASHLIGHT- SINGLE CELL (item 270501242690 end time 22-Dec-2009 00:30:00 IST)

eBay India: MINI MAGLITEĀ® FLASHLIGHT 2 AA CELL (item 250548330391 end time 22-Dec-2009 00:30:00 IST)

Use discount coupon if you have any

thanks, can anyone suggest, if LED torches are better?

Yeah LED torches are better. They have more battery life because the LED lamps consume less electricity.

Definitely go for a White LED Torch if you can manage one.

Get this one man. eBay India: Eveready Pocket Torch. VERY CHEAP! (item 150396329207 end time 16-Dec-2009 19:18:12 IST)

Keep it or throw it after your use :)

well get the LED versions ,i have most of maglite models ranging from 2aa mini mag to 6d mag.
i can tell u that the 2aa or anyother mag with a krpton bulb is a waste of money.
if u want more spread which is useful u will need to get a torch with multiple LED with dedicated reflectors,i bought a 8 LED torch for Rs200 from ebay,it blows away the 2aa mag which cost about Rs800,but yes the quality of these torches are crap, but has more usefull light.
so get a torch that has a metal body, with single LED power emitter if u want throw or a tight beam with smaller diameter, get a torch with multiple LED bulbs if u want spread out beam which is more useful.

Each of those LED bulbs consume .1 watt. So even if there are 6 bulbs, it is only .6 watt. Get the LED torch.

If you live in Mumbai and don't need need it for frequent travel then just get the cheapest and be done with it. Don't bother with LED, battery, power consumption, etc.
Throw it away when you return. Or give it to your bai.

well i have brought some really cheap stuff which even with minimal use goes kaput,or even a accidental fall shatters them into pieces.
some cheap torches have LEAD paint.
so its better to atleast get a one that lasts, imagine getting some el cheapo one that doesn't work(mostly due to cheap switches) when u most need them .

here are some cheap good quality torches from eveready
Eveready : Businesses : Flashlights : digiLED Torches

led bulbs last long(30k to 50k hrs) consume lesser power.
don't go for that crappy tungston or even krypton based torches, whose bulbs last only about 4hrs to 15hrs.

Sorry for not being clear. When I said cheapest, I did not mean the umpteen no-name torches out there. adder is right.
I meant good ones like Eveready but not to bother with expensive features like LED or rechargeable. Sorry for the confusion.
