run the following software, it will scan you system and let you know of any problems
http://www.microsoft...de-advisor.aspx

you sould uninstall stuff like the codec pack. Windows 7 can run a lot of stuff without any codecs even mkvs. Also since windows 7 has implmented a new way codecs work, the pack may not work at all.

I am not sure about wamp server but all other apps will surely work fine as I myself use them :)

P.S. If she use Vista currently, then everything should work without any problem. Win 7 supports all apps that run on vista.

the only thing that might not work out of the list is alcohol 120/power iso/daemon tools depending on the version you are using.newer versions of the tools work fine.

I use xampp and it works fine, so i guess wamp also will not give problems.
and yes, uninstall the codec packs.
you should not have problems with the drivers. many will work out of box and a couple which wont, vista drivers work fine.

Using Win7x64 for a long time, here is the compatibility list for the applications u mentioned:-

1.wamp server 2.0 - No idea.
2.foobar 2000 my music needs - Using winamp latest versions with some old plugins. Working fine. Foobar 2000 works in Win 7 from what i've heard.
3.adobe photoshop cs-3 - used CS4, compatible
4.adobe reader 9(nt acrobat reader) - Reader works, no idea abt professional. Using Foxit reader currently
5.k-lite codec pack and vlc 0.9 - using KLCodec mega version 5.0 and VLC 1.0
6.eset nod 32 anti virus - Works, used version 4.xxx
7.xillisoft mp3/wma converter - Tried Xilisoft MP3, works
8.microsoft office 2007 - Fully works
9.alcohol 120/power iso/daemon tools - Dont use this, old versions dont work. If u have to simply mount images, use Magic Disk/magic iso - freeware.
10.nero 8 - Installed once, works but installs a lot of crapware :). I recommend nero lite - for burning
11.advanced batch converter -Donno
12.irfanview - Fully works. Also picasa versions 3+
13.winrar 3.51 - Works
14.winzip 10 - Not tried, use winrar or 7-zip.

ok i am going to install windows today -- what anti-virus should i use--it should be smooth and should work properly with windows 7 it shouldn't be resource intensive -- i can buy norton 2010 for 1400rs or kaspersky 2010 for about 500rs.or is there any other anti-virus you recommend for windows 7? and how about some good anti-spyware/malware?

^^ m using free Microsoft security essential.. so far so good.. if going for the paid one better buy the KIS.

I have been using Windows 7 from the past 8 months without any anti-virus or anti-spyware, my OS has been absolutely stable and I haven't had an issue with it even once. If you know how to browse sites and have a little commonsense, there really isn't any need for an anti-virus since most of them are unnecessary resource hogs. If it comes to worst, you can always format your system, all a clean format takes is less than 20 minutes in windows 7.

+1 for Microsoft secuirty essentials. though if you are buying i would prefer norton 2010 anyday. Am using the free six trial version since the last two months and it is pretty good. plus very light on the system. and i really like the idea of norton insight.
