Hi
I have Tally 9 Silver single user edition and need to work on it directly from the USB so that I can use the latest updated data on my cabin, accounts and laptop computer.
The trouble is it is very slow and there's significant lag while making entries when I work directly from the USB. Everytime I have to copy the files to the hard drive, then copy it back to the USB, which is very tiresome and there's the risk of mistakes. Earlier when I had the DOS based Tally 4.5, there was absolutely no lag while working directly from the USB.
The drive is Kingston DTI 1gb and the computer is equipped with an Athlon 64 3000+ and USB2.0 drivers are working properly.
I am planning to get a Corsair Flash Voyager 4gb from Phoenix's GO and see if the better speed of Flash Drive helps, but I suspect the lag in speed lies elsewhere. Will using a faster flash drive or an external HDD make a difference? What could be the reason for the lag? Please give any suggestions you can asap. Thanks.

I used to have a Kingston pendrive. It was mind numbingly slow. You could benchmark the pendrive using HDTach or something and post the results. It could be a Tally specific issue too, since I'm assuming updates to accounting files should be a few KB of data maximum.
If your Kingston drive supports the U3 platform (i.e. a small taskbar icon with launchable icons is created when you plug it in), you could package the tally to run as an U3 application, completely portable. However be sure to backup your stuff properly before you try this!!
