Single core Atom had adequate performance that makes it fit in any mini-notebook, but not quite adequate when it comes to doing tasks more complicated. Quite interested in Intel Atom’s outlook, people had been eagerly waiting for Atom dual core to roll out.
Days ago, rumor got spread as Intel is preparing ship their dual core update to the Atom product line. Techies had been watching closely on the net for any leaked information.
Earlier this week, the detailed pictures about Atom dual core 330 and the board it rest upon, named D945GCLF2, got posted over the Internet. And now, the retail version of Atom dual core 330 got also leaked. Can it be any further? Now have a look at what actually is sealed within the package.

Intel Atom N270 1.6GHz – 8291 pixels/s
Intel Atom 330 1.6GHz Dual Core – 16920 pixels/s
Intel Core 2 Duo U7700 1.3GHz – 24742 pixels/s
Memory Bandwidth Test :
Intel Atom N270 1.6GHz – 3.54 GB/s
Intel Atom 330 1.6GHz Dual Core – 7.18 GB/s
Intel Core 2 Duo U7700 1.3GHz – 9.53 GB/s
Source- intel atom 330 dual core benchmark
It will launch on September 21st&will retail around $43 only for the processor...

I believe this is an "MCM" not true dual "core".... waiting for a nice little dualcore Atom with low enough power requirements to work for MIDs...

The "Core 2" architecture has true dual core with shared cache, right?
AMD has native quad core tech at the moment, but Intel's Nehalem should fix that soon...

yes "core 2" is a native dual core with shared L2. As well "core 2" is a "out of order" arch, where Atom is a "in order" arch. with HT the make atom more EFF since if a instuction for one program isnt ready they can use HT to allow the insertion of another to be done by the cpu.
if intel does do a MID dual core Atom cpu, expect TDP around 5watts for 1.6ghz dually.
I was able to get a Atom 330 before 21st from provantage.com for $87. benching it right now, just got done running benches on Atom 230.
hope yall dont mind cross-linking to another forum.

Eagerly waiting for all benchmark results...:hap2:
Also how does Atom dual core compare to celeron1.6ghz?coz am thinking of buying single core celeron for downloading rig/surfing/watching movies since it has TDP of 35w...

yea i was suprised to when Provantage showed it in stock already. i was expecting mayb if lucky the 19th. well given performance level of the Atom230 being equal to Banis 1.4ghz cpu. For watching movies, atom230 with 480p has no issues. at 720p the sound is a maybe 10ms or 50ms behind, really hard to tell length. i have no measureing device to figure that out, i would figure a higher clock speed on atom would help. as its not much behind the video. Now Atom330 still hast he same issue with H264 content as well at 720P. I do have a ATI 2400PRO PCI card in the box, HD2000's are able to do H264 hw level. It seems the only version of the cats i can get for this card from powercolor are 8.7's. when using DXVA enabled the card or drivers are not directing the Video to the GPU. Playback of DVD's or Mpeg videos is no problem as i can see by watching "task manager" the cpu never get above 5% usage. with 480P content on Atom230 is 65% peak on "Transporter 3". At 720P Atom230 reported max % peak at 86%, with 1080p cpu usage % peak was lower then 720P but video was so far behind audio. for at least about 30secs the video was still playing while the audio was done. now on Atom 330 cpu usages windows was reporting is lower but that is due to it showing 4 threads. Video on atom 330 was still the same as on Atom 230. If you are looking at making this a "playback" only box add in a PCI 2400pro for the job. other wise i would suggest the setup for a basic computer user. making MP3's doing school work, email, basic things like that.
the videos were downloaded from here (for H264 video's)
H.264 Zone | Feature - Digital Digest
they were then play'd back in M.P.C. HomeCinema v1.1.604.0.

hi mate,
tks for the overall description on atom330...Would u suggest buying one when it goes on sale?Am asking you since sempron LE1XXX which retails for 1.4k&any NF6100 mobo which retails for 2.2k,so the total comes to 3.6k which is eqv to Atom+mobo combo...
Also another drawback i see is that since CPU is soldered you can't change the CPU neither you can overlclock if u wish...
Now coming to Atom dual core which should retail aorund 4k....Would it be wise to invest money in atom or any dual core processor with less power consumptiom like AMD AthlonX24850e?also since amd has upperhand when it comes to its IGP(780Gor740G)?

if you looking for 720P/1080P playback GPU lvl then go with the AMD/ATI setup. the Atom setup wont be ready for that kind of work unless you add a 2400pro PCI card, that cost me $60USD. the buildt in videochip on atom is able to handle 480p with no issues.
as far as ocing Atom goes thats going to require some soldering. which ironclly im looking into, since i have been over the "BSEL" table. I have had to make some "guesses" and to me my "guesses" fit with the bigger picture. If the hardware mod works Atom 230 will be running on a 166MHz fsb vs 133Mhz, bring the cpu clock to 2GHz. now its my assumation that the increased clock speed on Atom 230 will make 720p playback possible(strictly on the cpu LVL that is.). as like i said its currently is behind by a few sec at 720p. I really wont know for sure till/if the hardware mod works. Now that i know the "BSEL" table intel is using i need to track down the "BSEL" pins on atom. this is going to be a thin piece of wire to connect get a "L" BSEL to read "H" to force a 166MHz fsb.

thats going to be up to your app your going to use the box for. simply i bought Atom330 for more work per watt. since this will be doing nothing but Rosetta and Seti from time to time. As currently Atom 230 can do 140ish RAC in rossetta, Atom 330 would be able to doubl that RAC.

Though hardware modding can be done can't it be done using setfsb? Though atom is known for its very low power consumption i feel the earlier D201GLY mobo was worth...
maybe i think AMD/ATI setup would be best choice...Also i read in tomshardware Athlon2600 beating atom in all tasks including power consumtpion....Waiting for Athlon2650e to hit the indian stores...

Intel 945GCLF has pci-e?! I never knew that!
I thought only those ECS,foxconn OEM mobo's had pci-e.

tks for those benchmarks results...You could also post review of atom dual core in review section...How is load/idle power consumption all i could see is the ALU/FPU score....:)

well i will post a link to the site that will host the review. also i didnt at the time have the funds to get a kill-o-watt meter so i dont have those tests. i will be adding those later when money becomes less of a issue.
